I may be on to something. Studying within the system Admin area. Looks like there is a way to see if different troll posts are coming from the same poster.

Need a techie guy to comment.... on every single post make you can do a "reverse DNS." What is that?

Maria posts pretty much as herself, but does use some "other" fake commentary posts. She also uses two different numbers.... work & home?

So, if we need to figure out WHO a troll or "polly" is posting as, please flag me.

Tell me which thread they are posting on... thread name & URL... then I can do a reverse DNS.

He's flooded it to the point where it is impossible to post, and impersonates anybody who tries to swat him off. He has gotten obscene, threatening, and crude beyond tolerance. Perhaps the police have a method of dealing with vicious ppl like JBD? He is targeting Leska because Leska exposed him for exactly who he is, thru analysis of his previous pet peeves and exact repetitions of sentence structures. Leska did not respond to him before, but did this time because he was cluttering up too many threads and confusing newcomers and impersonating you. Enough is enough.

We are hoping you, or a very crafty skilled talented computer programmer you might know, will quickly find a way to block the JBD troll, in all his guises, from ruining your Forum, which is the *best* Y2K gathering spot on the Net.

Thank you for pointing the Purge Robot onto the unnecessary threads/posts. There are many grateful regulars. AES is just the slightly more civilized side of JBD's multiplying splintering personalities.

There is a new thread we are calling to your attention, not to delete (yet; who knows what it will turn into) but just so you can see that Jimmy Bagga Doughnuts has admitted his return and his intention to "destroy this forum." This troll has a definite problem, and we have no idea how to purge him of his multiple demons, but he certainly has returned with unrelenting vigor. He must be using chemicals/substance assistance, or the possession is bumping up his energy level. Some of his assumed personalities have wit but *ALL* become violent and obscene when questioned or exposed. The man's temper is dangerous.

The way it seems to work is that someone dials in under a certain ISP and I can see where they are coming from... to a point. (Using an AOL proxy or an annonomizer messes up the tracking. The real trolls know that).

1) The DNS servers codes change (maybe different phone or trunk lines) but there is a distinct similarity too, between 12.79.22.xxx and 12.79.24.xxx:

Unfortunately, so far, I cant see a way to search on the posts made from a specific DNS code.

With the Jimmy Bagga Doughnuts name he always used the e's:

So now Im stumped.

I need a way to search posters by their DNS codes to look for similars.

One thing I can do is see all the e-mail names posted to the whole forum--real and funny--on a given day or within a date range, then I can click on it, find links to all the post made with it and look at the DNS numbers.

But thats majorly time consuming!

One thing I have noticed, is there is a lot more heckling coming from posters all over than we had originally assumed.

Bummer.

At any rate, JBD is/was not the only rabble rouser, by a long shot!

So, thats where the JBD hunt sits right now.

BTW what helps in troll tracking is:

 the thread name
 the URL of the thread
 the date of the post
 the user "name"
 their fake or real e-mail name

Even then, the Admin software isnt perfect, for tracking problems.

Tere's a point where you have to recognize that 'free speech' shouldn't be construed as a suicide pact.

One BBS I know of has a list of keywords -- the usual Anglo-Saxon vulgarities and a few more added for special cases -- when any word on that list appears in a post, the post is routed to a "review" file before it appears on the BBS. The Sysop looks thru the review file at intervals, perhaps daily, and make a judgment on acceptability. If context justifies the post, it's passed to the BBS; if not, it's dumped. Some folks complain. So what?
