Sanitation

Sanitation?
I'm going to add an Out House Department in my large shed next to house. I plan to put in a trap door in the wood floor, add a shelf over the top with a large knothole in the middle. I'm moving dirt around in the garden and know one will notice MORE dirt.
Vermin
Simplest solution to roach control: boric acid powder. Sprinkle it along the baseboards in every room including closets.

Humanure?
Provides easily scaleable construction details for building a cheap, efficient compost bin. "Materials for the Compost Bin"lists various compostable materials, with informative comments on each.

What to do with all the waste?
I'm rather new here, so if this topic has been discussed before, just point me to the thread and I'll pipe down. My question is, what are people's plans for waste disposal?

What do you do with garbage?
I hear a lot of talk about human waste disposal, but what about garbage? If we are to assume that maybe you cant go outside for safety reasons, what do you do?

sewage question
We called the health department and found out that we have a cap on our sewage pipe that would prevent back-up. Is that enough to prevent methane gas build up?

Calling all Plumbers! How do you stop your toilet and drains from backing up?
If electricity shuts down, so does our sewage systems. What is the best way and easiest way to close off the toilets and drains to keep the sh*t from entering our homes?

Okay, let's talk about backed up sewers, etc.
Many people will HAVE to stay, for many reasons. And, if power & water are interrupted for any length of time, the sewers WILL back up.

Latrine Hygiene
I know that most, including me,are stockpiling toilet paper, but if the S really HTF, you won't be able to stock enough

What are compost toilets?
I read in one of the threads about compost toilets. Could someone please explain what those are? Iknow this is not a very tasteful subject, but how do you dispose of human waste.

How to get lime for the "outhouse"
I have seen "lime" mentioned several times to be used in outhouses etc. I've looked at hardware stores and the only lime I see is in small packages for fertilizer/plants.
