We're in the long beach, ca area and want to upgrade our 16 stop freight elevator (original 1929 otis) to a fully automatic unit.

We're currently unhappy with our existing vendor and would like to switch vendors at the same time.

Does anyone have a good company they can recommend?

There are many good companies, but unless you have a personal relationship such that you have total confidence in one of them, I suggest you use an elevator consultant to help determine exactly what you want and need and to represent YOUR interest.
