YO NEED HELP I HAVE A ERL THAT SOMETIMES GETS LOST BY TRAVELING UP OR DOWN. IT LOCKS IN 2 "SO" RELAYS THAT CAUSES THE NA & NB RELAYS NOT TO RACHET I HAVE REPLACED BOTH THE NA & NB RELAYS AND ALSO THE 39B RELAY (DUE TO POSIBLE SLUGEHNES ) HAVE GONE THROUGH THE BACK SIDE OF THE CIRCUT A COUPLE OF TIMES. MEANING WHEN TRAVELING UP THE SO2 RELAY WILL BE IN THEN "NA" DROPS OUT TO PULL IN THE "SO3" RELAY BUT THE "SO2 RELAY WILL NOT DROP OUT. THIS HAPPENS SOMETIMES BUT NOT ALL THE TIME.IF MORE INFO IS NEEDED PLEASE ASK ITS EATING MY LUNCH !!! LOCAL 135

erl

I had a similar problem with and erl and if my memory serves me right it was either the so3 normally closed not breaking or the so1. I will pull out my prints and see if I can jog my memory. Its been about 2 years since I encountered the problem. I do remember it driving me crazy because it was intermitant.

Westinghouse ERL

Richard,

Is the controller a 2BC-ERL? Built after 1967? Is the selector an SN selector or Relay selector?

I have a write up for the 2BC-ERL relay selector (notching selector). This is from the third edition of Westinghouse's standard wiring schematic. Contact me if this is helpful to you.

ERL

Hey Rich, I feel your pain.I would have to look at a print tommorow for the exact # of the contact but it is going to be either #23 contact or #24 on S01 or S03. Had the same problem a couple of months ago.

Change your selector tape guides, trust me. If that doesn't work replace the tape switches.

YA GUIDES WHERE JUST REPLACED ABOUT 30 DAYS AGO AND THE NA NB SELECTOR SWITCHES HAVE BEEN GONE THROUGH. i RAN IT WITH 39A RELAY BLCKED OUT ,THAT ALOWS NA NB RELAYS TO RECET EVERYTIME IT GOES OVER THE CAM . ALL GOOD THERE. ON THE #23 OR #24 CONTACTS SHOULDNT THE NA AND THE NB CONTACTS DROP THEM OT ? STILL PAIN IN MY SIDE LOL

ERL

Richard, Check the poer supply to the selector. With the car leaving the first landing SO1 picks up, SO2 Picks up when NA drops out. SO1 drops out thru its cancelling coil one sequence later when 39 picks up. SAO2 picks up when NA picks up "SAO2 is not SO2's true auxiliary." NB drops out to repeat the sequence for SO2 & SO3 SO1 provides a pick up circuit for SO2 resulting in a breif period when both are picked up. SAO2 and other SA relays sequenced in to prvent this overlap. Check to make sure the SA relays "SAOT, SAO1, SAO2, SAO3, SA(T-1)" are opening & closing properly.

LOL,

JOn

Hi Richard. The problem that you're having is because that circuit is a relay race between the SO, 39, NA and NB relays. It is worse on faster elevators than on slower (200 fpm). That's why they put lag coils in the 39 and 39A relays. I have had to add another 39 relay to give one more relay operation and this makes the controller think the selector switches stayed on the cam longer. If you have 39A then add a 39B and let it take the place of 39A and just use 39A to pick 39B. Also check the screw heads on the SO and SOA relays for hanging. One other thing that can cause this problem is the residual tabs on these relays (SO SOA) being worn and the relays haging in residually. You might want to add residual clips to any relays that pick up too close. Like I said this whole circuit is a relay race and it has to work almost perfectly or there is problems. Looking at the prints won't solve this one. Good Luck

HA GUYS SORRY FOR NOT GETTING BACK SOONER. I DID FIND THE PROBLEM WITH THE ERL UNIT. THE PROBLEM WAS IN THE 39 RELAY. WHAT WAS GOING ON WAS SOMETIMES THE RELAY WAS NOT MAKING UP GOOD ENOUGH TO BRING IN THE 39A RELAY, MEANING IT WAS A RACE BETWEEN PICKING UP THE SO RELAYS AND DROPPING OUT THE OLD SO RELAY .ITS BEEN QUIT ON THIS OLD JOB AND IM COUNTING THE DAYS UNTILL THE NEW TAC 50 CONTROLERS GO IN.THINK I MIGHT EVEN GO DOWN THERE AND UNLOAD THE TRUCK BY MY SELF JUST TO KNOW ITS REALY GOING TO HAPPEN LOL. THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP !!

HI RICH,

I HAVE FOUND THAT THOSE ES RELAYS BECOME MAGNETIZED.I USE THE TEFLON HORSE SHOE CUTOUTS FOR THE ES RELAYS ALSO CHECK THE BRASS 6/32 STOP SCREWS MAKE SURE THEY ARENT GROVED!ALSO CHECK FOR COLD SOLDER IN THAT NOTCHING CIRCUIT..GOOD LUCK ,,,,DAN FROM SAN FRANCISCO
