American Elevator of Louisville, Kentuckygreenspun.com : LUSENET : Elevator Problem Discussion : One Thread
I'm not sure if anyone can help me, but I am researching my family tree and need information on American Elevator of Louisville, Kentucky. I have been told that my Great-Grandfather worked there but the only info I have found was on a website for "dead elevator manufacturers". The site is old and emails have been undeliverable. He would have worked there in the early 1900s. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I believe that AMERICAN ELEVATOR was succeded by K.M. White Company which was in turn acquired by ARMOR ELEVATOR out of NY City which was bought by KONE of Finland, which also bought MONTGOMERY ELEVATOR CO. of Moline, Ill.
Two acquaintances of mine, now deceased, who worked for AMERICAN Elevator were Martin A. Ceder and Bill Bailey, who later founded their own very sucessful companies - Martin A. Ceder, Inc. in Louisville and Miami Elevator Co. in Miami, Florida. Ceder, I think, was sold to MONTGOMERY and MIAMI ELEVATOR to DOVER CORP. DOVER'S Elevator operations were subsequently purchased by ThyssenKrupp.
Perhaps this will be of some interest and use to you.

Marty and Nancy Ceder sold their company in the early 70's in 2 parts. Both are gone leaving no children. The elevator division went to Dover, and the material handling division went to Syracuse Supply out of New York. In the mid 60's my father was sales manager for the material handling division. If he were alive, he would be in his 80's. I remember most of the elevator people to be older than him, so I would think most of them are gone.
Marty had a secretary named Carol Thompson, who later worked for me. I haven't heard from her in 10 years or so. She would know the old names if anybody alive would. But she was in a bad way, and I don't even know if she is in Louisville.
