No pat answer. A good version of one beats a poor version of the other.

All else equal, I'd favor the drum for its' simplicity.

Totally agree with John's answer with one addition. The new Inclinator CD 2200 /Back-up has a full time battery back-up capable of around 75 round trips on a 2 stop installation. They use a VVVF motor and electronic controls for smooth starts and stops and a faster full run speed. We’ve installed many of these with much success. Good luck.
