thanks. and which one is the best? abe's is the most expensive one, but seems to be the most solid and i like the idea of a spare set of bateries and a storage for the softy. anyone with bad experiences?

Stefan, just in case you haven't already checked these out, I see Leica's Grip, Abrahamsson's rapidgrip, MGRIP, and GMP-grip under:

Hope you find something you like.

Three M hand-grips compared

Sorry, my fingers just keep itching... Leica grip #4. ;o) Cheers.

Oh, please... Leica Grip #4.

I use the GMP grip. I guess it's an earlier version than the one in the picture above. I put black gaffer's tape around the handle for a better grip.

Stefan, I don't have any grip (yet) because I don't want one. But if I ever do get one, it may be a Leica grip, because the "feel" here is really good and it is really sturdy. Think about the base-plate or bottom of the grip, too. At least the Leica grip has a socket dead center here, which is a big advantage if you ever consider using a tripod. That's why I bought the base-plate B30 with such a socket (without grip) from Really Right Stuff (http://www.reallyrightstuff.com)

today i stumbled by coincidence over a gmp grip at my local pawnshop (cheapest place to get used equipment if you really know the stuff, don't expect expertise!) and it was really cheap. feels as sturdy as it can be. but i am not so sure whether i like it. it somehow makes you twist your hand in a weird way and it has corners where there shouldn't be some. i'll try it for a couple of days, otherwise i'll ebay it away.

stephan, I felt the same way when I first tried the grip. It sat in a drawer for a good six months before I gave it another try. I haven't removed it since.

two days of playing around with the gmp grip convinced me. the strange twist i mentioned above is actually quite useful. the middle finger rests perfectly around the grip and does get less in the way of the small rangefinder window. your wrist stays more horizontal, which makes it easier to trip the shutter. unfortunately it is highly ugly, destroying the whole design of the camera. but so what. it is useful.

I started with M-Grips, and really liked them. I tried the Abrahamsson RapidGrip, but found it too big and awkward for me. I held an M with the original metal GMP-Grip this summer, and liked it so much I ordered two of the current version pictured above. They've replaced the M-Grips on my cameras, as they are a bit larger and give a more secure hold. They fit my hand better than the RG. All in all, I like them, but I still think the original metal GMP felt a bit better.
