Midfielder List

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Who would you ideally like to see as our new midfielder?

I personally would choose from this list...

Dunn (Blackburn) £8-10m D'Alessandro (River) £2m Emerton (Feyenoord) £8m Denilson (Betis) £15m Gallardo (Monaco) £10m Ferguson (Rangers) £7-10m Djorkaeff (Kaiserslautern) £3m Van Der Vaart (Ajax) £5-10m (Only 17/18 but WILL be the worlds greatest midefielder - watch this space!)

Any additions? I personally don't rate Carrick too highly.

Have a look at the other thread (I think it's This season compare with last)

It basically goes through the same topic as you, but it's pointless posting the same stuff twice, just have a look in there :)

There are a few names on there that I haven't really heard of, D'Alessandra and Van Der Vaart. Isn't Djorkaeff about 33 now?

Gallardo and Dunn are class though, still not convinced over Ferguson though.

How about Thomas Graversen from Everton. He from my country and has what it takes to play the defensive midfield. He is keeping Gascoigne out of the Everton team. He has been marvelous for the danish national team !!!! He is still only 24-25 yo. and has a past in Hamburg SV and Vejle (Denmark).

Rafael Van Der Vaart scored again this afternoon before being taken off injured as Ajax cruised to a 4-1 win at home against Willem II Tilburg. We discussed him on an earlier thread as Buff was mightily impressed with the lad and wanted updates: SOS . Besides being daft to move abroad at this stage of his career the fee would be well into double figures.

Vatos, having seen Graveson yesterday, I'd have him immediately. He completely controlled the game - well, apart from the result ;-) I'm surprised he's only 24-25. Obviously looks older than his age (a bit like me, really). I doubt if Evertom would let him go and I doubt if we could afford him if they did.

Jermaine Jenus (sp) is playing now & having a good game, there are a lot of decent midfielders playing in Div 1, notably at Forest, Crewe, the lad who scored for Sheff U yesterday. If we offer a mil fo a couple of these lads it's gotta be better than unknown South Americans who Bobby has no intention of pplaying.

Everton are in financial trouble apparently. Gravesen could be coaxed away if we offered them about £6m I reckon and then upped the offer slightly.

They wanted £14m for Jeffers initially but accepted £8m eventually as they really needed the money.

I suspect we're in the sell before we buy market.

Yeah, you're dead right, but Leeds have bought with the view to succeed. They are in quite a bit of debt and are relying on qualifying for the CL. If they don't then the money spent on Ferdinand (£18m) and Keane (£13m) could cost them dearly.

We had a bit more money to start with than Leeds, who made a bit from the CL last season which has apparently went straight back into the board's stadium fund, whether it is an expansion or a new stadium.

A new one to add to our list - 22 yr-old Bruno Cheyrou of Lille. Saw him play and equalise for Lille tonight v Manure - what a terrific young player.

Aye - he looked canny. No doubt also noticed by Taggart and those French tw@ts ;-)

Got it in one Gus. The other one may have missed it unless the nurse gave him a treat ;-)
