I posted my reply to your comments in the Previous Thread.

That thread was getting a little long so I started a new one.

"How do you get around the problem of "judge not, lest ye be judged?"

1 Timothy 5:20 Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.

"I'll see you in hell"

That is a trip you choose to make on your own. As a believer and follower of Jesus I will be with Him in Heaven.

Help me out here, Ain't. I do not see how this one verse of scripture answers my challenge. I would really like to understand.

It seems like you repeat exactly what I am questioning. How can any mortal know for sure what God's judgement will be? Spiritual pride is a terrible thing.

The biggest problem with scripture is using the verses out of context. You MUST read the whole CHAPTER to get the jist of what is being said. THAT is why people who quote scripture all the time piss me off, because they can use one verse and TWIST it to mean what they want it to mean, and that may not even be close to the original meaning of the verse. This MANIPULATION of the true meaning of scripture is an abomination in itself. It is FALSE WITNESS. Most of these people also quote from KJV... The King's version of the Bible, and an adulterated one at that...

scratchin' an itch...

If you accept Jesus, this is what the Bible says in Romans 5:8-10

8But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be SAVED from WRATH through him. 10For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

I'm not quite sure how best to answer you...but here goes.

1 Timothy 5:20 (English-NIV) Those who sin are to be rebuked publicly, so that the others may take warning.

1 Timothy 5:20 (English-NASB) Those who continue in sin, *rebuke in the presence of all, *so that the rest also will be fearful of sinning.

1 Timothy 5:20 (English-Darby) Those that sin convict before all, that the rest also may have fear

1 Timothy 5:20 (English-KJV)Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear.

1 Timothy 5:20 (English-YLT)Those sinning, reprove before all, that the others also may have fear;

1 Timothy 5:20 (English-BWE)Talk to those who live a wrong life and tell them to stop it. Talk to them in front of all the church members. Then the others will be afraid to do it.

Next step in posting entire chapters from each of the above I guess ;-)

Aint gonna happen--anyone can make the bible say anything if they take verses out of context. Cults make that their business and that is why they routinely keep the verses out of context and create their own bibles or holy books--to keep people from seeing the full truth. Satan loves "half-truths". Look at the entire few chapters surrounding your verse, also look at the chronology of the events to see who Jesus was talking to and why. It helps put it in better context.

God is merciful and loving but he is also holy and righteous and just- -it is all part of his nature which he cannot violate. Jesus extended mercy and forgiveness in some instances yet in others he let people have it with the truth. Same in the old testament, where sometimes people were struck dead from a "seemingly small infraction" and then other times, God endured and endured misbehavior to allow the people to repent before he let them experience the consequences of their behavior.

God is god. He tells us all about himself in his book--the bible; he also tells us exactly how we are to live to have a complete and blessed life in this life and to receive eternal life. Why should he have to keep repeating himself to get our attention? The bible is amazing historically, prophetically, scientifically, etc. If that isn't enough for you, then maybe you are too full of self-love and pride to have a relationship with a God who requires us to first recognize that he is god. The bible also clearly states that god has already revealed his will and that it is only when we obey what is already written will he reveal any more to us personally.

If you really want to find God, he will show you himself. But you have to come to him on his terms, not on yours. we are the creation. he is the creator.

God never intended for His people to attend seminary school to understand His writtings. 1 Timothy was written by Paul to Timothy a young leader; to young church leaders and believers everywhere. This letter was written as practical advise for Timothy and his ministry. First Timothy is not only a personal letter to Timothy but a handbook of church administration and discipline.
