Possible indicators of c4i still lurking...

Anyone know where the c4i threads are?

Cherri, you are an idiot.

We are not Cory, however we know him.

Oh... and Tom Carey... your post... August 20, 1999. ...

[snip]

The question remains -- what's their problem? (at Ramstein, for instance). I can dream up any number of problems -- but I'm asking what their problem is.

What... who is ramstein.af.mil ?

Thanks,

Diane

Well, sure looks like c4i is a regular lurker. Knows the regular posters inside out too. Hasn't been fazed at all by the flames and speculation. We've decided c4i is gonna stick it out with the Forum right up to Rollover and maybe beyond (as if the electricity & Net will be up ...)

Hhhmmm, names his addy "curse" ... they didn't want to be transferred there? LOL

If c4i knows Cory, Cory may know him/them/it.

Overseas mail for military personnel, we think. Saw that addy on Dear Abby mail thanksgiving project years ago. .mil types, exactly what is it?

Diane notes my earlier post:
Oh... and Tom Carey... your post... August 20, 1999. [snip] The question remains -- what's their problem? (at Ramstein, for instance). I can dream up any number of problems -- but I'm asking what their problem is.

As I recall my question was never answered.

Just wondering why it should be referenced here -- ??

So sorry for the delay, email and internet here at the new work address have been terrible.

Ramstein is a "big" Air Force base in Germany: hence the "af" in the address, and the "GE" in the other address.

2) The Army and Navy obviously send their units to all sorts of places, so surface mail (as in WWI, WWII, Korea, etc.) can't get a "street" or even a country address. So ALL mail is sent to units via a FPO (Fleet Post Office) or APO (Army Post Office) center in San Francisco or New York. (Can you spell y2k-induced delays there?)

From these post offices, the mail gets re-routed via military jets or ships or trucks or whatever to the ships or actual locations of the army units. Air Force units not actually permanently "inside" a base - like the base commander or the maintenance officer - would be similar.

This helps too in classified deployments when the actual location of units would be intelligence information to an enemy.

So this email address maps to the Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany, reasonable for an air force military email source.

Thanks guys for the responses. Such an "interesting" group we have posting here.

(Not to mention that civies are dot mil challenged. They ought to market an "alphabet soup" product to make up their $ budgets. Bet it could be a money-maker and recruiting tool at the same time).

I'm getting the shivers...the "splits" thing seems to be heating up and I wonder if it couldn't blow within a very short time.

Could some in power sit back quietly steaming in their seats while so much is on the line?

Mike

the "splits" thing ???

Clarify?

-- Anonymous, September 22, 1999

Yep, one .mil group thinks it's more Constitutional to take the other fork in the road. Splits off from Mass Round-Up. Obeys their vows. Hhhmmmm ...

-- Anonymous, September 22, 1999

Divisions in perceived mission, divisions in definition of the scope of duty, divisions in approach to challenging situations -- all these have been noticed among those elements of government concerned with events falling under the generic terms "UFO" and "alien presence". It is certain that not all these elements appear in the budget. And no surprise to find comparable divisions among those concerned with Y2K.

The central aim of those who need or desire to manage public opinion is to "control the conversation," in Michael Lindemann's phrase. Except for the Internet, the public conversation on Y2K has been under very firm control. And likewise for UFO's, etc.

-- Anonymous, September 24, 1999

I'll agree there on both counts Tom.

Think Michael's concerned about a more "overt" military split coming up.

*Major Sigh*

-- Anonymous, September 24, 1999

Yep Diane.

I'm really wondering if there are currently serious splits within both the government and the .mil groups. Though, Tom's insight sure does ring true. Can you imagine where we would be right now if it weren't for the internet? Would we all be Pollys? Would we even have a clue.

I'm wondering if the splits in the gov and mil aren't reaching a critical mass which could erupt in a coup of some kind. A&L are right when they mention the Constitution. Some may feel that currently the job just isn't getting done and it may lead to many deaths including their own loved ones and the Constitution itself.

c4i and his/their group lurks every day.
Many military folks read the Forum. More retired than active because the retired have more time.

Some of the .mil folks who used to eMail us have started posting a sentence here and there again. The EndGame is heating up. Y2K is alive and running full steam in many alert minds.

Where does Greenspan keep his money?

This was relayed to one of the folkes in our little group from a fairly trustworthy source, however, we can't confirm and would like some assistance.

Recently their was a gathering of reporters, in this gathering was one Andrea Mitchell of NBC News. To wit a subject of discussion was Y2K.

There was much laughing and joking and fear expressed by the gathered with respect to the doomers and naysayers who are prepping for the CDC. To make a long story short, just before the gathering broke-up the topic turned to money and if anyone was going to make a withdrawal. Ms Mitchell said they weren't worried, that their money was "spread" about in "passbook accounts".

We have a few questions:

1. Does anyone know Ms. Mitchell well enough to verify or dispell?

2. Ms Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, was this in reference to them as a couple or was this the "royal we?"

Hoff Smears Yourdon -- Time For This Anonymous Poster To Face The Music

OK, Diane, trace c4i "home" as he invites you ... same as Abe above?

Now this is getting most interesting ...

-- Anonymous, October 15, 1999

An observation here folkes:

First Rule of Contingency Analysis -PLAN FOR WORST, HOPE FOR THE BEST !

We've read a number of Mr. Youdon's books, even went to see him speak at GWU in March.

Mr. Youdon nailed this squarely on the head a long time ago, this problem is not about technology, it is about people and in particular management, and to be VERY SPECIFIC for Hoffmeister, Flint, et al -PROJECT MANAGEMENT. Before you even begin with a Gant Chart or Pert Chart, develop a basic timeline. Start with the end date and work your way back to when you want to begin. Now you can set-up your subprojects according to the master timeline, assign personnel, monies, and other resources to accomplish your stated mission.

Certain projects cannot be sped up -you can't impregnate 9 women and expect a baby one-month later, or two women and expect an infant in 4.5 months. In the first case it will be DOA, and in the second it probably won't survive. It doesn't matter if this Mr. Super Sperm and Ms. Wonder Egg, it doesn't matter if you had "La Mas" or not, it doesn't matter if all the right vitamins and minerals were eaten, and doesn't matter how many words or encouragement and cajoling are heaped upon the mother. It won't work. And even if you had the nine months, you're assuming that the baby is healthy.

Mr. Youdon fundamentally understands the Project Management realm of Y2K. He also understands Contingency Analysis and he is providing advice free of charge. We thank him and kindly ask his detractors to GET OFF HIS ASS.

We'd rather spend the money and be wrong, than to be caught with our britches down. We have no desire to end-up Tango Uniform on account of something that is foreseeable and preventable.

Hoffmeister, a few questions:

1. How much money have you made from Y2K?
2. Why do you have a burning desire to not only detract Mr. Yourdon, but Mr. Milne and Mr. Hamasaki?
3. Do you use an alias because you are in actuality a substandard programmer and you don't want to "blow your cover?"

Flint, a few questions:

1. Pick a side man, or were you gelded?
2. Are you a masochist?

And before we get flamed, our fearless ringleader is posting from home tonight, Ms. Squire can verify. We normally post from a .dot mil (an alias is the only way we can post,) but tonight we're irked.

Actually, it makes us feel much better that these military planners lurk and live on the Forum to this extent. Means they're reading the threads, seeing the evidence -- some of them GET IT. And Lord only knows this country's Fighting & Defensive Forces need to understand this issue!

Not to mention the satisfaction of seeing some Super Tough Dudes come in and kick polly arse. YES !!

-- Anonymous, October 15, 1999

wow...I'm very interested in *exactly* what got them to go after Hoff that way. Could they have info on "who" exactly Hoff is? Or, "who" Hoff works for?

Seeing that they posted at such length from "home" worries me. They are "irked". How tight is this rope right now? How much tension before something pops?

How far away is the US from Pakistan, really? When it's "all" on the line can the line be clearly recognized?

Mike

-- Anonymous, October 16, 1999

Michael, the direction right now is in tandem with Pakistan. It really is. The risks and stakes have risen to intolerable levels.

Has anyone here read the novel The Generals' President, by John Dalmas? It's o.p. but available used here and there.

The scenario he develops is sort of encouraging, in a way, but many less attractive developments seem more probable.

-- Anonymous, October 16, 1999

All I know is Cohen's recent announcement of the "Joint Forces Command..." at THIS particular timing is "suspicious."

This does NOT bode well. Michael, I suspect that schism you feared may be occuring behind-the-scenes.

What a crazy world!

Paging Flint

Flint (we're not sure whether it is Mr. or Ms., You leave so few clues, or is it too many clues)

We have prepared an application for you as the Designated and Forever Permanent Devil's Advocate.

Name: Flint
Occupation: Depends
Age: Whatever
Address: Someplace
Telephone: A group of numbers

Essay on why you want this position:
Well you see, there are a number of factors, many of which I laid out in my many essays, ramblings, strings of thought on the forum TB2000. However to really appreciate my stance on this subject you must ask me about my childhood, which began when I was an adult or was that after I was born, maybe I should ask someone, perhaps my mother, no not her I'll ask my vet who has known for at least a week. Any way as I was stating in an earlier reference to be posted sometime later than now it all began when these aliens abducted me and sent me to their country which was in another state but same time zone across the ocean from where I live. etc. etc. blah blah blah. What was this job for anyway? I have a job, I mean I work sort-of, I take home a pay-check that I converted into cash for some reason and buried in my backyard or was it my freezer, no I put it in the bank, the safest place for money except if you don't trust the bank and I don't so I put it there. Got it. Good.

If you accept this position with us please reply with the following:

"Yesnomaybe"

And we thank you for your support

BTW for KOS, one the folkes on the team mudwrestles
