 What's the Point, Continued

Mr. Decker

 One of the things I notice on the board is that people do not like in depth research. There are a few that look at all angles and try and assess the effects of what they find out but by in large most like to look at the controversy rather than the information.

(the Naval report is a good example, it was not new information just alarmist reaction)

Case in point, Alan Greenspan (link posted on the forum) just put out the most alarming speech I have read from him.

 Greenspan's Jackson Hole speech (Mitchell Barnes,

How many will read it? Even with your economic background you have back stepped from looking at the macro economic picture. As you may know my knowledge of economics is minimal but it doesn't stop me from trying to scope out the signs that the big boys are trying to understand. Even Alan G. is working through the events of the past few years and drawing a "picture" of the events. I do know though that while Y2K may bore you, you are aware the economic problems are acute.

There are many on this forum that you may never notice much but their contributions are often not posted on the top of the forum, rather they post in the threads of a topic that interests them. On a lark I counted 90 threads in one day. (up from 50 at the start of the summer) Many of which are off topic and muddify the ability of most to keep up with all the events and information that folks write about in all those threads. Even though this forum has spawned 2 others the volume of information just keeps increasing. That is a deterrent for writers to spend an hour or more to contribute a great piece just to watch the effort get lost in the electronic quagmire that is the archives on this forum, (some of your efforts are included, good and bad)

Fortunately there are many posters that are on the forum that contribute such great material that it is worth doing the searching to find the diamonds in with the mud wrestling :o)

But then in the midst of all the rhetoric and dynamite on the forum I see a post like this;

 Long time Lurker moves on (Joe Babinsky, Just.here@Tucson.AZ.com, 1999-08-28)

About a "lurker" that as assessed the situation and choose a course of action to help ensure the safety of his family. This is why I post on the board, not for the sake of the regulars, that is like preaching to the converted, but to those that are looking for real information and how to find it. The information is out there. If you choose to ignore it, that is your right, but there are many that read the forum and need to find gov., com., mil., health, international, local and what ever else is out there that is relevant and informative.

This forum is just a microcosm of the internet. It  is difficult for the researchers on the forum to find good information. For the lurkers it must be worse.

Unfortunately my ability to write eloquently is not on par with yourself or many on the forum but I have tried to work with my strengths to contribute the best way that I can to help others develop a picture of Y2K and a plan to deal with the possible failures.

People need more answers than questions.

That to me is the point.

That is why I come back here. Here I can find most of the Y2K news available, presented with comment (which have various levels of insight) which is subject to critique. News with peer review all in one spot. Anything that is muddied I can go check on myself with the information presented here.

Keep your...
