Paging Runway Cat

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Our favorite cat has been missing for awhile now, and is missed by many of us. I know that cats have 9 lives, and yet am still wondering how he is and if everything is ok. Maybe Runway just needed to runaway for a bit. So if anyone knows please post here.

Yes, Rob, we've been wondering too. Was worried, then saw a post from RC a few days back, but nothing like what we were used to!

Runway Cat, watcha up to? ????

Whew! Thanks Leska, I didn't see that post or any other by him since the phone gnome thread began. Hopefully he will come back soon and keep me company in asking those 'vexing' questions.

-- Rob Michaels (sonofdust@net.com), March 01, 1999.

I too, have missed RC's posts. FWIW, I haven't seen anything from him since E. Coli said farewell.

Leska,

Do you by any chance remember where you saw that last post? (thread name would be great, but even subject matter or content would be useful in locating it)

-- Hardliner (searcher@internet.com), March 01, 1999.

Hardliner, here's the thread Rob is referring to:

Supermarkets, Duct Tape, and Phone Gnomes (Humor)

My fuzzy brain seems to vaguely recall another post from RC shortly after the phone gnome one, where I think I may have answered him? The ole synapses are not firing this morning. Anyway, it was near the February 19th date, somewhere.

RC is a fellow Cascadian and a much-enjoyed poster. Return, Cat! If we concentrate and send our loving-demanding insistent thoughts, he'll be drawn to look in on the Asylum :-)

Another poster I'm missing very much is Hallyx.

I had email from Hallyx in the last 3 weeks...I'll drop another line, I too, enjoy Hallyx, (mucho)...."the quotation maven"!

I can't hardly stand the loss of E.

I remember when, respectively, E and then Hardliner blazed onto this forum......... have been in wide-eyed wonder ever since.

Remember the old days, when you could set this forum on fire by even suggesting GN got a bad haircut?

-- Lisa (lisa@loss.bummer), March 01, 1999.

Lisa --- How DARE you suggest that GN had a BAD HAIRCUT!!!!! Why, you @##%##$%^@#@#R&^&%$ !!!

BigDog:

Let's see ya refute it, ya *&^*&%$(^%)()@*&#(@&%#*@^$%^%#!!!!!!!

With facts, not opinion!!!!!!!!!!!

(smile........... I may try to hunt E. down.)

Thanks PNG.

PNG, oh no, please don't let it be that Runway Cat has left for good!
Was that what you were saying on the other thread? Did he bug out, or just overdose on this Forum? I really truly hope he comes back someday! What a loss.

If you are able to talk to him again, would you please tell him I miss him very much? Thank you.

Leska...The other thread wasn't about RC.

I haven't received an answer yet ...

Where is our philosopher provocateur? Runway Cat, come back! Kit kit kit kitty! PNG, have you heard anything yet?

-- Not Liking (theCatwithdrawal@cold.turkey), March 11, 1999.

No reply from Runway Cat. I think there are 2 possible explanations:

1.-- He may have returned as another lifeform.

2.--The real R.C. is a high-profile type in a high profile place. Posting may be a problem. Which leads me back to 1.

-- PNG (png@gol.com), March 11, 1999.

Thanks for trying, PNG

:_(

He could have answered your eMail, tho -- that's not too dangerous.
Such a loss. Light a candle for him ...

Hi Leska, Donna, everyone,

Ever since my computer was down about a month ago, I just haven't got back into the habit of closely monitoring and participating. My great loss. I still lurk a little, but I'm spending most of my time enjoying the little time I have left in California. I expect to be helping my parents and family prepare to survive in a major Eastern city with a reputation for instability and violence. I'll probably spend rollover there---and the rest of my life, most likely.

If I can get my head out of this depression, I'll try to post more. But right now I need sunshine and blue-skies. Call me a GI-BNTIITRS (but needs to ignore it to remain sane.)

Thanks for thinking about me.

Hallyx

-- Hallyx (Hallyx@aol.com), March 11, 1999.

Hallyx! Thanks for posting. Have really missed you. Sunshine & blue skies are nice; wish we got more in Cascadia ;-)

Don't move to that Eastern place if you don't want to.
Anybody can prepare by reading, learning, doing. Don't endanger your life! Heck, buy them an iMac & send URLs. Costs less and is more cheerful all the way around. Yes, that's superficial advice, but I've done enough head-banging on DGIs to know, if the motivation does not come from within, the brick wall doesn't budge in time. Let them come back to you if/when they're ready. Time to conserve energy and channel it like a lazer where most beneficial.

Haven't exactly gotten depressed about Y2K, more like rising amazement level. Have always been very aware the USA quality of life is higher than many other places, and it is susceptible to erosion because of "human error." Been watching humanimals getting farther and farther from friendliness, love, caring, civility, etc -- eventually it'll hit bottom and take another direction.

Well, to my astonishment, something else has very unexpectedly come blazing into our life. It has been warring with my attention for a few weeks, but has finally won me over. Off to our first and deepest true love! There is time for extraordinary happiness before Y2K hits ... even during & after Y2K, if the humanimals would just leave the hidden preppers alone ...

Enjoy the sun, flowers, blue sky, fleecy clouds, laughter, children playing, rhythm of normal life, Hallyx! You have enriched our life so much! We'll eMail you after a bit. Love, joy, peace & fun -- God bless you.

Anybody hear from Runway Cat?

-- Rob Michaels (sonofdust@net.com), April 06, 1999.

Wow, I checked in today after month away, see this thread. Thanks Rob, it's the thought that counts, right ? Recently I've moved on to nuke war as a more interesting issue, but I must admit the discussants are more lively here ... Doubt I'll be posting here about y2k anymore, but as a parting shot, for your amusement and enlightenment, I offer the following: my facetious letter to the FDIC protesting 'Know Your Customer' (when I sent it a few months ago, it was wrapped with my true name and email address), and the amazing reply I recently received pertaining thereunto (names & numbers changed):

Dear Feds,

You've been getting a lot of mail criticizing your proposed "Know Your Customer" regulation. Well, I want to let you know that I support it 100%. Don't let those little people push your organization around. You know what's best. After all, an honest man has nothing to hide, right ? Go for it, and I'll see you in the place where there is no darkness.

Your pal,
Big Brother

Dear [Runway Cat],

I'm a reporter with American Banker newspaper. We've been covering the proposed ''know-your-customer'' bank regulation quite closely and are now reviewing comment letters sent by the public. The FDIC identified your letter as one of the few supportive ones, but after reading it myself, I'm not so sure. It seems quite sarcastic to me. After all, you signed it ''Big Brother.''

So was the FDIC right, or am I?

Wow is right. This thread has been inactive for a while - I was thinking about you again and decided to bring it to the top tonight. Just one more synchronicity. We have missed you RC. I have to confess to having been a bit worried about you too, especially after that 'watching the waters, secretly hoping to drown' line. Who was it that the quote was from? Well, it is great to know you are ok, and have not gone to another life-form. LOL. And thanks for the KYC post - ROFL. Don't be a stranger!

-- Rob Michaels (sonofdust@net.com), April 06, 1999.

RC,

I'll heartily second Rob, your presence has been sorely missed. You contributed a great deal here.

PNG guessed that you may have good reason to keep a low profile, and if so, certainly do not put yourself at risk for the sake of posting here. If you can do so however, and are so inclined, rest assured that your thoughts are highly valued and appreciated.

-- Hardliner (searcher@internet.com), April 06, 1999.

RC, glad you're OK! Nuke war is more interesting? But shorter than Y2K ;-) Don't abandon your old haunt & interest entirely. As another poster said ~~ something to the effect of "I'll be back when the blackberries fall."

Wait a minute ... nuclear war ... did RC go off with E. Coli to another Forum? Hhhhmmmm.

Cat? Yea, I remember that cat.

Was that Runway cat, or "run-a-way" cat (sorry Rob).

Here kitty, kitty...

Good time to check out "the swamp"

Here kitty, kitty, kitty...

Got a nice cup of Y2K compliant milk here...

Here kitty... ... ...

Runway Cat: Just thought I would send this to the top on the chance that you may stop by here tonight, especially since Y2K will be front and center with the Y2K movie airing. We still miss ya cat! Please post and let us know how you are.
