Attention all Yourdonite regulars please read this thread and post your responses.

Mike Lang originally posted the following source on a few threads back. I feel really strongly that it is a MUST READ. Be warned it is lengthy. However, I would really, really appreciate if some of the regulars - you know who you are - would be kind enough to take some time to read and post your responses.

Also, for those of you within easy access of the DC metro area there is an 'OPEN INVITATION TO AN EVENING PANEL PROGRAM ON Y2K, COMMUNITY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AND COMMUNITY PREPAREDNESS' at The Washington Post Company, Washington, DC., in relation to the above White Paper by Dr. Paula D. Gordon, Ph.D. See URL:

http://www.gwu.edu/~y2k/keypeople/gordon/announcements.html

I mention this because of the interest shown at the 'Rick Cowles Speaks in Maryland' thread posted yesterday. Anyone interested in attending may be interested in attending the above program. I shall try and restrain myself with duct tape while I await your responses!!!!!!

Oh, in case you didn't catch the address in the December 15 link, Prof. Paula Gordon can be reached at:

Oops!! Apologies to the regulars.

Thank you Arnie Rimmer for pointing out my oversight. I mistakenly thought this was just a recent occurrence.

I shall understand the lack of responses from here on from any other regulars.

PS. I really have been going through old threads looking for answers to questions that I have before I post. I must have either missed that one or not reached it yet.

Suburb: Wait! This paper by Prof Gordon is recent (Feb 25, 1999) and it is very important.

This should be required reading for all people in public service roles. Prof. Gordon has helped to point us towards a better understanding of the problem and has offered ways that we can mitigate any eventual disruptions. If her suggestions are to be implemented, they must be implemented now, without further delay. The window of opportunity for doing this is just about gone and each day that passes without the kind of action she suggests makes the problem worse than it needs to be.

I continue to be impressed with both her understanding of the problem and her commitment to raising awareness and offering positive suggestions for crisis management.

In my humble opinion, Prof Gordon would have made a far better choice for 'Y2K Czar' than has John Koskinen. I believe that Mr. Koskinen is hopelessly in over his head at this point. Mr. Koskinen appears to be a good follower at a time when what we desparately need are good leaders.

I'm a "regular" but not one of the in crowd. Read Dr. Gordons paper last night... VERY well written; pulled no punches; however, it is probably to late, seeing that Wild Bill is still running the show. Did copy it, even though the printer only had red ink. Maybe that's good !!!! Got mouse traps ??? Eagle
