Open/Close timing standards

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Elevator Problem Discussion : One Thread

I am trying to research if there is a standard safety code in the United States that determines a set time for the elevator doors to remain open before closing again. I am also trying to find out if there is a safety organization that monitors elevator safety issues. All I know about elevators is how to push the buttons, :) , so any assistance will be greatly appreciated. THANKS!!!

I DO NOT KNOW OF ANY REGS REGARD1NG DOOR OPEN TIMES NORMALLY WE SET THEM AT 7 SECS A BIT LONGER IF IN OLD PEAPLES HOME ECT IF SERVICE IS A BIT SLOW REDUCE THIS TIME TO 5 SEC IF NEEDED A QUICK CLOSE BUTTON CAN BE FITTED

I believe the latest ASME code is 3 seconds min.

Your State probably has an elevator dept. that is responsible for public safety and who would be the folks to talk to.

Went back to look up the timing, and couldn't find it. May or may not be right...
