I am in highschool and want to pursue photography. Can some of you tell me what colleges you went to and what kind of degree you got there? Can you tell me how you liked it? Thanks a lot! Erik Anderson http://www.localaccess.com/erik/gallery/

Pursuing "photography" in a school would probably be lifeless for you and copmletely out of touch with what you expect photography to do for you and for otheres. Pick up a camera. Look around you as your camera is in your hands. If you are the same person with that camera in your hand that you were when the camera was not in your hands, forget photography.

Don't believe that. School can be great. It depends what school you go to. If you want to be a commercial photographer, choose a school that is more of a trade school than art school. As for being "copmletely out of touch with what you expect photography to do for you"... there's a possibility. Fact is, a good school will expose you to all sorts of different things.. and you may really not care for certain things... or you may be introduced to something you never thought of doing. Going to school for photo is awesome.

I hear the California College of Arts and Crafts has a good program. Check out different art schools. If there is a professor/staff that you want to work with, follow them. I hope this is helpful. I strongly believe in art education. That foundation (2d, 3d, art history, drawing, etc) is important to learn and school is great if you have the resources.

I agree with the person above, school can be a great experience. I just finished "photo school" and it was great for me, I just finished Humber College Creative Photography program in Toronto, Canada. Hmm, a good school will expose you to all kinds of situations/types of photography for example. We had lighting classes, theory (Zone System) commercial, portrait, digital, etc. etc.
