SAL baggage car

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread

I have the SAL baggage car sides sold by the society (#312-320,321-333). The instructions and drawing show windows in the doors. The only picture I have is in the SAL color guide on page 8 of #326. It seems to have no windows at all. Was #326 unique or are the instructions wrong or what? Thank ypu very much

I have a number of photos of cars in this series and all have windows. The later photos all show the single small square window; earlier photos, prior to rebuilding (apparently done around the mid- 50s), show a row of three tall narrow rectangular windows on each door. To me, the photo of 326 in the color guide also shows the windows plainly, they are just dirty and so almost blend in with the rest of the door. Take another close look.

Walter -

According to the diagrams in the "diagrams of Passenger Cars" that the society puts out, all of the SAL baggage cars had windows in the doors. If you look closely at the picture you referenced, you can see where the windows on #326 had been filled in. Have no clue as to why they were filled in on 326.
