Marriage Vows vs Anullment

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

If someone takes marriage vows before witnesses and before God, then why are there things such as annullments?

It shouldn't even depend on pure/impure motives. If someone makes a vow before God, then shouldn't it stand?

Their vow must be given freely - without duress, any outside forces, etc. If not, then the vow is not valid. This applies to marriages because it is each of the couple who minister the Sacrament to the other.

The short book Null ity of Marriage by Frank J. Sheed explains this very well.
