BULLETIN -- New Worm circulating!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Ask Jesus : One Thread

Hi All,

Just wanted to warn you about a new worm circulating under the name of the FBI.

I received an e-mail this morning allegedly from the FBI stating that my IP address has been linked to "illegal" websites. It then states that I must fill out the form (which is an attachment). This is a very official looking e-mail. The attachment has a "worm" in it.

DO NOT OPEN THE ATTACHMENT!

I came within a hair-breath of opening it.

I've gotten them from PayPal and eBay recently. Same scam, very realistic looking. I didn't bite either - whew!

And it really gives you the creeps. I saw the e-mail this morning, early, and didn't have time to open the attachment. But it bugged me all morning thinking, "Oh my gosh, I'm in trouble with the FBI" "What'd I do?"

A friend of mine, who is an elderly pastor, had the FBI show up at his door FOR REAL and they confiscated his computer. Turns out there were some real bad dudes using Larry's e-mail address, and the FBI had to check it out. His wife said "Oh, I just knew he was going to jail." It all turned out okay, Larry got his computer back, and did not go to jail, but that would have scared the "you know what" out of me!
