Katie,

There are more angel references in the bible than one could count in a reasonable amount of time..

The angel Gabriel performed the Annunciation to Mary God sends an angel to prepare the way in Exodus An angel tells Joseph that Mary has conceived by the Holy Spirit An angel tells Zechariah that Elizabeth has conceived (John the Baptist)

Just go to a bible search site (ie., biblegateway.com) and search for "angel" -- many many references.

Hope that helps..

KT-

This is not an actual list, but just some info on how many references there are. This is taken from http://www.bible.org/page.asp? page_id=711

"1) The mention of angels is inclusive in Scripture. Depending on the Bible translation searched, these celestial beings are referred to from 294 to 305 times in the Bible. References to angels occur at least 116 times in the Old Testament and 175 times in the New Testament.

(2) These many references are found in at least 34 books from the very earliest books (whether Job or Genesis) to the last book of the Bible (Revelation).

(3) Finally, there are numerous references to angels by the Lord Jesus, whom Scripture declares to be the creator of all things, which includes angelic beings. Paul wrote, “For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities (a reference to angels)—all things have been created by Him and for Him” (Col. 1:16)."

There are also references to angels which do not use the term "angel", such as the "young man in a white robe" who was present in the tomb after the resurrection.

Laurent,

You want proof? Proof can be found in the hearts of believers and those who have interacted with their guardian angels. I firmly believe my guardian angel saved my life. I am sure this response will not suffice for you, but it seems very few responses will suffice for a proud non-believer.

Laurent:

''--what/where is the proof ?? 'cause , References are no evidence !!''

But references ARE evidence, if testimony comes from a trustworthy source. You must first TRUST the one who offers the reference. His voice is enough authority for reasonable men to accept the reference.

If you refuse to believe a liar, no one can blame you. But refuse to believe Him who gave you existence and the very air you breathe, the parents you love, and the health you enjoy,--

Is so foolish. One day we must die. You don't need proof of that, you know that. Your health and your LIFE is proof of God, and His love for you. It isn't yours by accident.

TRUST His word. That's all. Trust the ones who speak to you about God. When you leave this world you'll have proof. Until then, God shows us His power every day; we can go on in faith just by observing all the wonders He has done.

hear hear (to the above reply and yes i can agree with people! :-P) are there any references that discribe angels ie. wings...?

Angels are pure spirits, having no bodies and therefore no body parts. They do not "fly" in the earthly sense of the word. In Revelation there is a description of the angels who surround the throne of God, but that of course is part of a symbolic vision given to John, and should not be taken as a literal description of what angels "look like". When angels have appeared to human beings, they have appeared in human form - probably to prevent scaring us to death.

kt:

There are a bunch of passages that describe angels. Here are just a couple.

Exodus 37:9 The cherubim spread out their wings above, overshadowing the mercy seat with their wings, with their faces one to another; toward the mercy seat were the faces of the cherubim.

Isaiah 6:2 Above him stood the seraphim; each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.

The cherubim (cherubs) and seraphim are two of the groups ("choirs") of angels. Actually, angels are pure spirits, having no real wings as birds do. Instead, God has allowed some of us humans to "see" angels by temporarily letting them appear with bodies and wings. The wings are symbolic of the angels' extraordinary ability to "move" with a swiftness beyond our comprehension.

Just curious, since you appear to be an "Evangelical" protestant. Did you think that there were no passages describing angels with wings? Did you think that it was a Catholic invention?

kt:

Under the term Angel/Angels there are 303 reference in 289 versus. If you want a list of verses I can email them to you. Too long in length to post and I don't feel like reformatting it.

My sister saw an Angel once when she was about 9. Our Grandmother at the time had just died and she asked God to help her to know she is ok in heaven. Immediately there was an Angel in a white robe in the apparance of a woman who was staring at her friend with a smile. She closed her eyes and opened them to see if she was dreaming when the Angel was gone. She had a tough time sleeping after that for she was quite startled. My sister has never once went back on her story since that day and no longer prayed for my Grandmother's soul to be released from Purgatory. I do believe she is sincere in what she saw but i will still pray for my grandmother regardless. After all, if what she saw was indeed an Angel as a sign, it is between she and God.
