Single Catholic, wanting to marry divorced Catholic in Catholic church

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

I'm a single catholic. my boyfriend is also a catholic, divorced from his ex-wife who was Church of England (not sure whether she was baptised). They have 2 children and were not married in a Catholic church.

What would we need to do in order to marry in a catholic church?

You would have to submit his previous marriage to a marriage tribunal for determination of validity. If the tribunal finds just cause to declare that marriage invalid (null), it will issue an official statement to that effect (an "annulment"), and you will then be free to marry him in the Catholic Church. If the tribunal does not find just cause, you will not be able to marry him in the Catholic Church, and since you are Catholic that would mean you could not validly marry him anywhere.

Paul,

It doesn't matter if she is Catholic or not, if his first Marriage is deemed valid, she could not marry him validly no matter what her (or his for that matter) religious affiliation.
