ASH WEDNESDAY

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

Here is Lent once more. Time por penance, meditation, prayer, self sacrifice, and especially FAST AND ABSTINENCE. I suggest that in our prayers we have the following intentions:

- health and well being for the Holy Father.

- prayer and charitable action for the victims of the Tsunami in Asia,

- the conversion of atheists, pagans, fallen away Catholics, Separated Brethren and sinners in general.

- Brotherly love towards the poor, the sick and needy.

- Renewal of the Christian life of every believer. AMEN

May I also add:

'Reverence for the Holy Eucharist and increase in perpetual adoration'

'Return to the Sacrament of Confession'

'End to Abortion'

'Proclaimation of the 5th Dogma'

I am new here but I hope I am not too forward if I add an intention?

I personally will have the intention of a renewal of orthodox and reverent liturgical practices. It is so hard to find parishes that have truly reverent masses nowadays. Most are now putting on what looks like a protestant service or even an outright Christian concert with little (or no) respect for the Holy Sacrifice that takes place at the atar.

I also will be praying for my loving grandmother who my family lost recently. I will not only have my thoughts and prayers on my grandmother but also on my mother who is in a truly dark place in her deep grief. Jonny

i've just been to Mass. Church half-full but still 6 people to assist the priest with the ashes. they forgot the water to clean their hands of the ashes. everyone, including priest, leaves church [into backroom] to get water. while they're gone, organist strikes up tune - the next hymn. but priest comes running out to stop him. they'd forgotten the intercessions. intercessions begin. priest jumps in half way through first one thinking its done. luckily reader carries on. forgot collection.

table had been removed from altar and placed slap bang in centre of church. chairs on alter for congregation - should there be enough people.

i sat beside the tabernacle. i saw two people that actually bowed to it, rather than the table or the cross. most people didn't even bow to anything.

no-one stayed for prayers after Mass.

what do you do? speak up and get accused of being a pharisee? that's the standard riposte. i got that when i pointed out the priest needs to use water for baptism. is it really worth it?

PS ALL of this is completely true. no exageration, no invention.

Sounds like you really need to find yourslf another parish. Most would never allow such things to occur.

Good intentions Enrique, Jonny's too.

Paul, it is common. I have a journalist friend who visits parishes and writes articles about each visit.

Someone once pointed out something: for a Mass that is called normative, it really is quite interesting that one finds such variation in the celebration of the Mass from parish to parish.
