Kill the Prius Pedro

greenspun.com : LUSENET : zipcar : One Thread

The Prius Pedro is the worst car I've ever driven. It is exausting to drive, it's so clunky. Whoever designed the panel in the center -- as opposed to behind the steering wheel -- belongs in jail. Someone is going to get killed glancing to the right to read the panel. Worse is trying to operate this non-standard nightmare it as you are driving. Someone from the bowels of ATM programming was apparently hired to do the graphic design of this abortion.

Just because it gets good gas mileage doesnt mean it has to be designed 'different' which someone thought means 'cool' but actually in the Prius means 'annoying' and 'dangerous'. "Wow, its hybrid...lets put the shift lever in a nonstandard position."

I hope zipcar replaces this horror. Or at least lowers the price. 12.00/hr??? WTFF?

Non standard as in its a hookshaped thing on the dashboard instead of on the floor, or even a straight-arm on the dash. Not knowing how this is different from the 100's of decently designed configurations out there indicates you know nothing about cars -- typical of a Pruis driving *tool*.

"The oddest interior feature is the dashboard-mounted gear selector for the automatic transmission. Instead of attaching it to the steering column or mounting it in between the front seats, Toyota seems to have taken a page out of the old taxi cab school of design: The Prius's transmission shifter operates much like the lever a cabbie yanks as soon as the ride begins and he starts the meter. With the Prius, you must push a button mounted at the end of the stalk and then move the lever down to engage a gear."
