Heaven, What to do?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

Hello everyone,

You know I always think about heaven and what its going to be like. Of course no one knows how its actually going to be, but we do know its eternal. For me thats kind of scary. I mean NEVER ending. You see in life we have goals. I want to do this before 20 or before 45 years of age. People have goals in life that they want to accomplish it before there time is up so they have a certain motivation. In heaven there is none of that because you cant die and it will never never never end! It kind of scares me

In heaven we will have no goals, because everything that a human being can ultimately have will already be ours. Perfect happiness and complete fulfillment forever sounds to me like something I can handle.

well, granted that in heaven time is not as it is in this dimension, then forever is the same as a grain of sand or the reaches of space.

We're giving mostly semantic expression to something untried therefore unknowable, except by revelation. The meaning of everlasting life seems apparent from a human point of view, because we exist in time. Never- ending time equals everlasting time or life. This is only an imperfect view, however.

The fact seems clear that INFINITY is God's own life; His control over all existence and life. That must logically mean we shall be infinitely occupied in our everlasting life. Because we will actively worship and serve the One, Infinitely Holy God, Who will not be worshipped or served except to infinity; the complete extent He deserves. God cannot accept less from us. We are to be infinitely ''carried away'' with our love for God! Not for a time; but forever. God deserves endless worship because His majesty and holiness are by definition endless and perfect. He is infinitely Holy and therefore only infinite worship can be worth His attention ! (But unfortunately, we just aren't capable in this life, of understanding that truth. It outstrips all metaphysics.)

We should never have had that capacity to love Him and serve Him. But His Divine Son and His Holy Spirit have that infinite capacity. And we live even now, in COMMUNION with Jesus; therefore with the Holy Trinity. This is what brings us and our love to perfection. Our love for Jesus Christ and His love for us. As impossible as it seems, we will live endlessly, offering infinite love WITH JESUS; to His Almighty Father Who lives in Unapproachable Light.
