How to make chapter in SVCD

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

First, many thanks to this forum and many experts, eg. Root, giving many valuable advices here, I did learn a lot from this forum when I started to make my own VCD and SVCD.

My question is: How to make Chapters automaticly eg every 10mins, in NERO?

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, you can't make chapters (also called "entry points") in VCD/SVCD if you use Nero to create the VCD/SVCD. If you use VCDeasy (http://www.vcdeasy.org) you can create chapters every 10 minutes if you want. You can create a BIN/CUE image file with VCDeasy that you can burn with Nero, but if you use Nero's VCD or SVCD template to make the disc, there is no way to put chapters in it.

Thank you, Root.

The reason I ask to make chapters in NERO is I am getting pretty good results with NERO when I encode mpeg files to SVCD files. I do not know how good the VCDEasy is. Can you let me know a little of it from your experience. Thank you for your time.

sorry, actually I am using TMPGEnc to encode the file and NERO to burn SVCD. If I can not insert chapters in NERO, can I insert the chapters in TMPGENc? I checked but could not find any settings.

VCDeasy is a VCD/SVCD creation program. It's OK to use TMPGenc to encode the video to VCD or SVCD, but you have to set chapters/entry points in your authoring software. Encoding video for VCD/SVCD is different from actually making the VCD/SVCD. VCDeasy is very good. I won't use anything else to make VCD/SVCD discs because I found that while Nero is a decent program, it doesn't really completely follow the specs for VCD/SVCD and sometimes players will refuse to play VCDs or SVCDs created in Nero or they'll have weird problems. I use VCDeasy to create a BIN/CUE image and then use Nero to burn it and I have no problems. There is only one weird thing about VCDeasy. Sometimes it won't correctly read all of your video files. I don't know why this happens. For example, suppose you input a 45 minute VCD file into it and it says the video file is 32 minutes long. If VCDeasy doesn't tell you that your video is as long as you think it is, do NOT create the VCD/SCVD! If VCDeasy tells you it only found 32 minutes of video when it should be 45, all you will get is 32 minutes of video. In these weird cases, exit VCDeasy without saving anything, open a new session and try again. You may have to demux/remux your video source file to get it to accept it. I have no idea why this happens, but apparently something can get in the video stream that causes VCDeasy to stop reading input. It can happen, so you should be aware of that. Otherwise it's a great program.
