Perplexing questions re Annulment & remarriage

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

I am a divorced Catholic just completing the Tribunal Annulment application which has taken me some time. I am also having trouble deciding who to ask to be witnesses for me, though that isn't my main concern as I finally connected with a Priest Mentor to assist me in the process.

My main question(s) are in remarriage. My fiance is a Catholic though mostly attends Church in a non-Catholic setting. She would be fine with marrying in the Catholic Church or in a Christian Church with or without a co-celebrant Priest.

Would I need to have special dispensation applied for to arrange for this before knowing the results of the Tribunal application?

Would I even have a chance of finding a Catholic Priest that would do this not knowing the results of the application?

Would I be able to renew vows in the Catholic Church after hopeful receipt of approval from the Annullment application?

I am most appreciative of any help, answers or guidance that anyone has.

Thank you and God's blessings.

Steve,

This is not nor would it ever be possible. The questions you ask suggest you do not fully understand the sacrament of marriage as the Church teaches.

As the Church teaches you are married to your wife and presumed married to your wife unless and until a competent tribunal declares the marriage null. As such you must act accordingly in all you do.

I suggest you speak with your "Priest Mentor" and Parish Priest regarding your questions prior to doing anything. At the very least, assuming your marriage is found and declared null you need to understand just what marriage entails as the Church teaches PRIOR to considering a "remarriage".

Daniel,

Have you see the defendingholymatrimony site or heard of what is going on with the Macfarland divorce, just curious? Let me know.

Karl, It appears Marie Macfarlane's case is pending at the Apostolic Tribunal of the Roman Rota. The competent US Tribunals would not touch it?

If you remember, the civil case against no-fault is premised upon required prerequisite Church teaching as a defacto prenuptial agreement requiring one to follow the teaching of the Church and 'rules' of Canon Law e.g. till death do part. Her civil attorney is arguing that the ecclesiastic court determination (pending at the Apostolic Tribunal of the Roman Rota) is relevant to the civil divorce case.

Here is a link to her website:
