Abandoned line between Suffolk and College Park, Virginia

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread

We're trying to find out when the Seaboard System Railroad stopped running trains on the track between Suffolk, and College Park, Virginia. (Mileposts AB 218.0 and AB 230.88 and ABE 229.00 to ABE 234.75.

We know that they filed an application for abandonment on this section of the line in Sept. 1985 with the Surface Transportation Board but we think they actually stopped running on this section of the railroad before that. Perhaps in the late 1970's. If anyone can give us a more specific date or direct us to a source that might provide that info. we'd be most grateful.

All rail line abandonments in the Commonwealth of Virginia are reported in an annual State Rail Plan which is prepared for the Secretary of Transportation by the Rail Transportation Division of the Virginia Department of Highways and Transportation.
