Atlantic and Western

I haul the US mail between Greensboro and Fayetteville twice a week. I've noticed one of the ATW locos behind the fence of the scrapyard just shy of the 421 crossing in Sanford. Is this unit out-of-service or do they base it there to serve the original ATW cutomers? This is one of the new SW engines that replaced the 70 tonners. Also saw a csxt train passing through around midnight heading south.

Yes,they used to keep an engine or two at the scrap yard.

I'm not sure about the status of the ATW unit but the southbound CSX train was probably F741, a Raleigh-Hamlet turnaround job. I'll try to find out something about the ATW unit. I know an employee there.
