Computer Glitch Billed Some Walgreens Customers Twice

Drugstore officials blame a nationwide computer glitch last Thursday and Friday for the double-billing of several million customers.

The error only affects purchases made on Dec. 23 and 24 at Walgreens, and only some customers who used a debit or credit card that required a signed receipt. Walgreens said debit card transactions using a pin number were not affected.

The duplicate billing was discovered on Christmas Day and credits were issued immediately. Walgreens blames the mistake on heavy sales volume.

The company said it continues to work on fixing the problem but doesn't anticipate it happening again.
