is my main command box dead

i have a simple set up wich came in a starter set with a controller a train and a command box thing which everything plugs into (it is made by roco). i switched it on and smoke came out of the empty sockets on the box, it doesnt work now, can it be fixed or has it burned out.

Whether it can be fixed or not depends on how badly burned the internal circuit board is. All you can do is send it back to the manufacturer for repair.

Before you hook it up again, you will need to figure out what you did wrong. I'm guessing that you hooked power to it's output. There are other possibilities, too.

The power definatly was hooked up to the power input, it was working befor, i had left it for a while could it have been that dust got in it or somthing, i had a look at the circuit bord and on one of the black chipy things with pins in has burned out in the corner only covering 2 pins
