greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

I ask that you all join me in a prayer for sdqa. I am going to pray that God opens his eyes and he sees the lies he's putting on this forum.

lol

well thanks anyway for you good intention, but what lies do you mean dude?

-- sdqa (sdqa@sdqa.Com), December 28, 2004.

Well, that Peter the Apostle wasn't the first pope is a good example. I don't care if you don't believe it, that's your own ignorance, but if you try to tell me that's what Catholics believe, it's a lie.

peter wasen't the first pope,he didn't call himself that way

he was simply the leader of his community of christians

people later made of him the first pope

The title has to do with language. The Pope is called Der Papst in German but he is still the leader of the Catholic Church. Just as Peter may not have yet had an official title directly after Jesus' death, he was still the leader of the Catholic Church. And after him was St. Linus, then St. Anacletus...........until the current Pope John Paul II.

he was the leader, but the title pope didn't really exist in that time so i think we can't really call him the first pope

his church was also not the church how it was later

it was a simple community of christians and not a hierarchal religious institution

-- sdqa (sdqa@sdqa.com), December 28, 2004.

*a hierarchal religious institution that serverd mainly for political goals throughout it's history(inquisitions, indulgences, bible not being taught to the people but being red in latin, crusades and off course making big profits)

You don't understand. The title doesn't mean anything. It was a hierarchy, but in its infancy. They all recognized Peter as the leader, just as faithful Catholics recognize Pope John Paul II as the leader today. It doesn't matter what he was called. But he left St. Linus in charge after him, and so on until today. An unbroken line of leaders that happen to have the title "Pope". There were/are some bad people in the Church. There were/are bad people in every church. Does that make the message any different? The message of God and His loving mercy have been spread all over the world faithfully for over 2000 years by the Catholic Church. And what do you do for God? You make a mockery of the Church that He Himself founded to spread His message.

"he was the leader, but the title pope didn't really exist in that time so i think we can't really call him the first pope"

A: I assume then you would also say "there were three divine Persons, but the title Trinity didn't really exist in that time so I think we can't really call God the Trinity".

Good reply Paul M. Sdqa, think about what you ar saying. Also, have you even researched ANY of these claims you are making here? I think if you really did you might be surprised. Even some Protestants after study will admit St. Peter was the first Pope (though they disapprove of his office)yet they acknowledge his leadership and authority among the first Christians and agree for Catholics he was their first Pope.

You also must realize that the oh so common claim that "The Catholic Church hid the Bible from the people and was only read in Latin so people could never understand it" is such a shameful lie! The Bible has always been taught in Church since it has been finished. Every Sunday there are Old and New Testament scripture quotes for the worship service. And at a time Latin was a major language that many spoke and the Bible was also translated in a few other languages as well thanks to one of the Popes (I forget who but I have it in a book of mine). The printing press was not invented until late so there was as well not thousands of Bibles everywhere you looked as there is today. Catholics did most of their learning from the Church (which taught the BIBLE) Christian Holidays, etc.

God give you peace.
