Too Many Dumb Sites

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Community Anime Reviews : One Thread

How many of you hate the fact that there are so many sites that want you to sign up, or click on voting ads??? I know that I do. I can understand having a sign-up area on your site, for people to be on a mailing list, or receive notifications, but the whole voting thing is just dumb...especially when you have 4-5 ones for people to click on before moving to a new page. I know that some sites do that to get money, or to get a better ranking, but if that is the case, then just dont have a site. Most of the sites out there that are like that are basically just replicas of other sites. So many sites look the same now that it isnt even funny. Most of them have the same media too. For once a site should just post other media than the ones that most sites have. I hate it when you go to look for an episode of a series and you have to sign up, then confirm it, then sign in, then click on 6 voting ads, then read an agreement, then you finally get to the media area, and what do you find??? A DISAPPOINTMENT...they dont have the media that you want, because they have the same media that all the other 30 sites, that you went through the same sign-up hassle for, had. I know that most sites host a lot of media, which I am thankful for, but they leave up the same media all the time, because they know that a lot of people will visit their site looking for that media. However, after a while they still have the same media up, and people are looking for different media. If a site was smart they would rotate their media every week or two so that they can host more media on their site. I hate how so many sites have the same layout and selection.

Exceptions to this would of course be sites such as www.lordinuyasha.com, who are dedicated to only one series, and they have all the media up all the time. Or sites such as www.ani-vault.com, or www.dbzhevan,com before it went offline for a while, who update constantly and have a lot of media, and everytime that they get more of a series they put it up.

www.lordinuyasha isn't down. You just have to pay $5 to get the links. Which I already did, and it is worth it.

go to united-anime.net they have more episodes then either of those sites and they only have 3 button voting so it only takes 10 sec. Also there is media in the forum so register

I could think of two reasons why they require you to vote before you are allowed to view the video(assuming it exists).

1. To earn money via some scam.
2. To piss people off.

Instead of paying $5 for only one series, I just use irc, it's fast, and it's free.

or maybe the reason they charge $5 is b/c they're paying $300 a month in server costs and they don't want to pay it all themselves........no that can't be it, that makes too much SENSE!

agree with Aaron. wtf dude? these people are risking money (having licensed anime online isn't EXACTLY legal), all they ask you to do is click on three buttons, and press Alt+F4 after the window opens up. but....wait a minute, OH NO HOW TERRIBLE! i might break a fucking finger pressing all that alt and f4 buttons. oh better go to a different site. if you don't like it...host your own site! people are paying money, and then you do what? tell them it's not worth it? if it wasn't for those people you wouldn't have all that media on your computer? do you understand that? WHINING FUCKING MAGGOTS!

Oh my gosh...you are just so smart!...NOT!!! I am well aware that they have to pay money, seeing how I have my own site, but making a mandatory "donation" kinda means that it isnt a donation. I understand that some sites have members and stuff, and that is cool, i dont have a problem with paying for that...which is why i said that I like www.lordinuyasha.com. I dont mind paying, it just the clicking to vote. It is dumb. If they want to get money, then they cant just use a hit counter or something and get money that way. There are a lot of sites out there that dont charge anything, and yet, they still get enough donations to run their sites. It seems that the sites that dont have voting buttons and that only have real donations, are the ones that last the longest. why you might ask...well its obvious. a lot of people dont like to have to vote and shit. most people will use the back door link instead of doing that because it is annoying. Another thing that annoys me is that the sites that have those are the ones that have the same exact media, most of which they got from other sources and just credit to be their own. JACKASS...

In answer to you paul...i do have my own site, which i am building right now, and some of us actually have legitamite copies of the files. Most of the anime that I have isnt downloaded. Unlike you, some of us actually buy the media. And yes, I am well aware of the fact that you just have to push alt+f4, but that wasnt the bigger issue. The issue was that they have you do that and then it is just a disappointment because they have the same media that the other 30 sites that you did the same voting for had. It is pointless to have sites like that, when the media that they host is media that they got off of other sites. What is the point of that??

-- JLS (purcry@yahoo.com), December 08, 2004.

Yes I will have to agree that there are a lot of sites out there that have lots of voting and then don't have any media or if they do then it's just 5 or 10 episodes that my grandma has! Well not really...but ya get the point. However about the "forced" donations isn't true. Sites like hauntedanime.com have free media, and rarer animes are located in the donator's section. Sites like saiyain- rebirth.com and many others are also legit and have stuff in their donator's section that makes it well worth paying. Think of it this way, you would pay $10 - $15 for 3 to 5 eps. If you are "forced" to pay $5 and then can download 100+ I'd call that a deal actually. But if paying the money is too big of a deal then go to united- anime.net They have over 1000 COMPLETELY FREE eps. if you're worried about the $5

-- Aaron (vcnavyguy@gmail.com), December 08, 2004.

Im not worried about paying $5. Like i said, most of the aime that I have is on DVD, and are legitamite copies. Paying money doesnt bother me. I dont mind paying for a good site, I just hate all of the replica sites out there. And yes, I know of all the sites that you mentioned...my roommate downloads from them all the time.
