Microscale decals for SAL passenger units

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread

I'm ready to decal my SAL E6a which will be the 3015 or 3016 in the light green scheme. Microscale 87-439 is an interesing lettering set with it's orange stripes and red scotchlight borders. The lettering is orange too. Is this right? The Callaway/Withers SAL book has this lettering scheme discussed but the inference is red on red. The Minical set MC4013 is all red.

What's right?

Try Microscale # 87-104 (Seaboard Airline Cab Diesels). It is for E & F units. It does however only have the "railway" herald, which would appropriate for the pre WW2 engines.

Note Joe's response. Looks like there was never an orange with red border color scheme for the SAL E's like in Microscale 87-439. This set in addition to the color problem has "Railway" rather than "Railroad" nose heralds. I bought this set from the society at le last Jax train show so assume thet it's the latest version. (shows revised 7-93). Has the society contacted Microscale about correcting the color and heralds? Have later versions of this decal set been corrected? The mini cal set has the color and herald right but the stripes are too narrow. The 87-439 set would be perfect with the right color stripes, lettering, and herald.

Bill, I haven't painted a unit in 20 years. But the mini-cal set is what you want, unless they have corrected the other to red.
