Will any country use nukes in war in in our lifetimes?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Anarchy 2 : One Thread

I have often wondered what would happen if another country (not Russia or the United States) actually used nuclear weapons against another country. I kinda thought we would have used tactical nukes in Afghanistan, but we didnt. Then I thought Israel was going to nuke Iraq when Saddam was firing scuds. SOMEBODY is going to use them but what country will it be? What might be the circumstances?

who the hell in their right minds would do this? you fire one nuke and you get 10 raining on down on your ass.

I think that if anybody launched a nuke, the world would be fucked. Especially if it were an India/Pakistan type situation. They both have nukes. All in all, we'd end up with nuclear winter in a day.

My own Biblical interpritation leads me to believe that someone will blow up a major American city with a Nuke... most likely a suitcase bomb and not a missile. America, not knowing who to blame will attack all the likely nations including but not limited to Iraq, N.Korea, Syria, Iran, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, France, Russia, China, India, Pakistan, Several Breakaway Russian Republics, and so on. We would Nuke the Major cities and use Attack Helecopters on anything that is left over.

Nope. Not anymore, and that's the new nuclear threat. In the Cold War days, the US and Russia had M.A.D. (Mutually Assured Destruction). Now, the US and Russia are allies, and both are democratic nations. If any of the second-tier nuclear countries uses a nuke on another country, there is no assurance that there will be retaliation. The scenario is really quite possible that a country like Pakistan could nuke India, or Israel might nuke Iran. Think about that.

I think the chinese would not mind crippling our economy a bit to bring down the cost of oil. They could secretly nuke a handful of cities and who would we blame? We have as many enemies as Kennedy had.If 50 bucks a barrel is going to be a hardship on us especially with the cold weather approaching what is it doing to the chinese?

Will the US use nukes in our lifetime? Good question. Hell, you talk to some of the people in this country, they are ready to turn the entire Middle East into a big glass parking lot (my dad, normaly a bleeding heart liberal, among them). I don't think we're ready to lose all that oil just yet though. The government knows that, and that's probably all that's holding Dubya back. That and the fact that he's got boatloads of money tied up with the Sauds. But when we have a governemnt that's NOT controlled by Saudi money? When we've found a way to become energy-independent? Who knows?

I am a conservative (called a Neo Conservative), butnnot necessarily a Republican. I voted for Bush because I felt that Kerry (and Gore before him) were kinda weak on foreign policy. Now that the election is over and some major players have changed like Powell and Rice and Ashkroft, we may be looking at a very creepy next four years.

Brasky is right about China. Nobody is prepared for a hostile China. If they ever decided to become a major foe and armed themselves with more up-to-date nuclear weapons, the Cold War could start anew. The growth of industry in China will increase its demand for fossil fuels, and then there will be a motive for them to militarize. If they do become agressive, God help us.

China hates us with a passion. I used to watch their newscast while we were kicking ass in kosovo. Now we are in Iraq and possibly might strike Iran's nuke plant down the road. Iran and China have a huge natural gas deal. A pre-emptive strike might not be out of the question if they could do it without getting caught. One of our subs which I used to build and then later tested(missle tubes) could annhilate China, I have always felt this guarantees us against a pre emtive attack from the old soviet union. If China strikes us it will be in the form of suitcase bombs or remote control subs that will not be traced back to them. We need to get the price of oil back down to 25 bucks a barrel or we may get it.

You know, when I was in the Corps, we were told that China had an army so large, that it could send men armed with only sticks and stones, and we would run out of ammo before they overran Western Europe. If they ever caught up with US technology and came up with a decent delivery system, everybody could be in danger. The motive? : RESOURCES.

Yes, america, and they already have, aprt from japan in ww2, theyve used uranium tipped shells and bombs in iraq and afganistan and will do a lot worse if they can get away with it.
