My husband and i separated in 1992. He had the house me the furniture had to get away he was very violent and i would not be alive now. I wanted to get my name off the mortgage but could not approach him after i left and he would`nt do it out of spite.Divorced in 1995. House repossessed in 1994 and sold in 1995. I had no knowledge or notification of this.During this time he was suffering mental illnes and was also made bankrupt. He subsequently died in 2001.Have been at present address and on electoral roll since 1996. Had my first letter from Halliwells solicitors for B`ham Midshire B.S. apparently now owned by Abbey in 2002. Have never acknowledged debt, they now phone regularly, I put the phone down on them. They keep sending letters asking me to offer payment or accept reduced offer of settlement. I have asked them to send me every single peice of paper regarding this debt but have had nothing except a last further letter to say my liabilty and involement in this is ongoing.Also that their client advised under no circumstances will the balance be written off.Any comments or advice would be most welcome.

Sorry - can't give e-mail as in the business - but keep quiet. Acknowledge nothing and if they have no information then they will have not a lot of luck proving the debt. Birmingham Midshires is owned by HBOS (Halifax and Bank of Scotland Group) and not Abbey afaik.

If you are being harassed by phone contact BT re their "Choose to Refuse service which is free I believe. Their calls will be barred. If you hear any more follow advice on the site. First thing to do is SARN them.
