effect of cooling water

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Resistance Welding : One Thread

does the cooling water which is circulated through the electrode have any effect on the current passing through the electrode in spot welding. would there be any current loss through the cooling water?

Kurt is correct. There is no current loss due to the water circulating through a spot welding tip. However, if the water is not circulating through the tips for some reason and the copper tips get hot as a result, the electrical conductivity of copper decreases somewhat. In other words, cool copper conducts better than hot copper.

The cooling water has no effect on the current passing through the electrodes.
