What did you learn last sermon?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

I am looking to create a positive thread. I am considering that what we learned on Sunday could be such a thread. And if it gets too big, we should break it down by month or week or (if very slow) year.

There was a baptism at my church. Two wonderful kids. Fr. Gary was mostly trying to define what our church was to the attending folks. He mentioned that the Beatutitudes should trump the 10 commandments, as they were spoken by Jesus.

And I should contribute to this thread closer to Sunday so that my memory is not so bad.

Good idea Sean! I'll try to contribute when I can.

Today I learned that perseverance (patient endurance) is necessary for salvation.

I learned we must be prepared for martyrdom. I also learned that Christians around the world (esp. China, Sudan, North Korea, et al) are being martyred. We have it lucky in the West.

In fact, more Christians have been martyred in the 20th century than any other century past. The 21st doesn't look much better.

Our priest asked us to reflect on how Christ is calling us be a witness in this world for Him, and to reflect on what He is calling us to do or sacrifice for His kingdom.
