Views on the Echo rowing shell with folding riggers.

Hi! I am looking into purchasing a shell and recently saw advertised an Echo Rowing Shell with folding riggers. It sounds like a great concept, as I will be car-topping by myself. Anyone have experience with this type of scull? Thanks so much, Diane

Hello Diane! If you haven't already, check out the post "Maas 24/Peirnet Dolphin For Lightweight..." in the Boats section of this forum. There are 3 posters in that thread who have Echos. I'm sure they'd be happy to answer your questions if you e-mailed them direct.

I don't have extensive open-water experience with sliding-seat boats, but I have rowed the Echo and I was impressed, quite impressed. Seaworthy, comparatively light, manageable (which means you can get it on and off a car and into the water easily), and definitely cost competitive -- and it rows smoothly and confidently. I had it in flat calm to some fairly rough water -- handles it beautifully. The folding riggers are the greatest, too.
