Johnson Catering has been serving breakfast and lunch to hungry MLWGS students in the Governor's Grille for the past two months, and they will continue meeting students' diverse tastes.

Since the school year has just gotten underway, it's too early to predict profits at this point. However, Byron Johnson, executive chef of Johnson Catering, said, "We're doing okay. We'll be here another year or so, if they let us stay."

Most students have responded positively to Johnson Catering. "The salads are excellent, but it's more expensive than last year," said Miju Han ('06). "The vegetables actually resemble vegetables… they're really high-quality vegetables."

Not only do students appreciate the fresh produce, but many also take advantage of the assorted food options.

"It's a very multicultural kitchen with foods ranging from tacos to pastas to fried chicken," said Dipen Patel ('05). "I love the variety."

The staff behind the counter seems to understand the MLWGS student's need for variance. "We keep our menu diverse," said manager Mrs. Marla Johnson. "If you want something in particular, we'll make it for you."

Instead of an emphasis on vending machines, Johnson Catering provides students with hot foods and freshly made sandwiches.

"We don't do that pre-cooked stuff," said Mrs. Johnson. "Everything here is hot and cooked. We don't even have a microwave back here."

The company is also very willing to adapt their menus based on student suggestions.

"If you want more ethnic food, we're not tied down to traditional American cuisine. We hope you won't be confined to fries everyday, even though it's all you guys eat. French fries, cheeseburgers and chocolate chip cookies," said Mrs. Johnson with a laugh.

A new library recently donated to MLWGS has opened in the second floor language hallway. This assortment of books should greatly help the school community, but many students still don't know that it is open.

The collection has been designated a teacher resource library. While teachers will have access to it at all times, students must receive permission from Mrs. Alanna Grayboyes, MLWGS Media Specialist, to gain access to the library.

"It's nice to see so many new books added to our school's collection," said Natalie Voss ('06). "They should help out a lot of students."

Several classes have taken trips to the library to become familiar with the material and to do some light reading.

The new assortment of books consists mostly of items relating to government, religion and language. The personal collections of three retiring college professors were donated to MLWGS and comprise the new library.

Some students, however, remain unaware of this recent addition to the school.

"I didn't know there was a library on the second floor," said Drew McFayden ('06).

In recent days, the room has housed the Spanish classes' Day of the Dead altar and has remained closed and locked. Few teachers have made formal announcements in class regarding the new books.
