Lutheran and Catholic parents inquiring about baptism

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Catholic : One Thread

I am lutheran and my husband is catholic. We will be expecting our first child in the spring and plan to have the baby baptized. IF the baby is baptized in the catholic church, in what capacity will I be allowed to participate since I am not lutheran? How would the catholic church perceive the baptism if ithe baby was baptized in the lutheran church?

You will be allowed to participate fully. The only limitation is that the God-parents that you choose must be catholics in good standing.

well, if you and your husband followed the proper procedure for his marraige to be sacramentally recognized then you know that your husband delivered a promise to baptise the children catholic and do his best to raise them as such. if not, now you know. the church would view it as a valid baptism, but it would be an infringement of your husband on his nuptual vows.
