I am considering a hip replacement. I note that post THR operative patients are advised to not carry heavy weights. My hobbies both require that I carry objects weighing 50-60 lbs now and then. Would I have to permanently give this up if i had a hip replacement? I am 68 years old, but quite robust and strong.

I don't doubt that you are quite robust and strong, but it is the device that is the problem. You don't want to loosen your hip and have to do it all over again.

I've just had my hip redone, and it aint funny the second time round.

You don't have that wonderful thing of giving up chronic and disabling pain.

Yes sure I had pain before the last hip, but it was short bursts of intense pain, not the constant nagging pain I had before the first hip.

Sorry no one replied earlier
