vcd 2 dvd

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hey I have a question for you all.

I am trying to convert all my vcd's to dvds. Umm I took 7 vcds that I had and used vcdgear to convert them to mpeg and I put them on my harddrive. I highlighted all 7 files and looked at the total size and it was like 4.4GB and that would fit on 1 dvd.

So I have a program callled PowerCDR Express version 5. I clicked on make a vcd. So I added all my files to were the needed to be in the program. This program allows you to put the vcd on a dvd or cd-r. I put the dvd in my dvd-rw drive and I clicked on write. It said it was looking for the drives and it found them.

But after that I got an error and nothing was written to my blank dvd. I have been trying to do this for a while Please some one help me out.

I've never heard of PowerCDR Express, but what you did is wrong. You don't want to make a VCD, you want to make a DVD. I looked on the Internet and PowerCDR is a program that converts DVD to VCD or SVCD format for buring on CD-R. I don't think this is capable of burning DVDs and you have misunderstood the purpose of the program. http://www.dvdrhelp.com has a guide to converting VCDs to DVD format. Please note that you will have to convert the audio from 44 Khz to 48 Khz. Since you didn't mention that, I suppose you didn't know to do that. I should also warn you that most DVD authoring programs will refuse to accept MPEG-1 video, although DVD specifications allow it. I know that DVD-Lab will allow it. TMPGenc probably will. Scenarist will allow it.
