On October 22, we members of the Catholic Church family honor, in a special way, the following friends of God -- "saints" and "blesseds" whose souls are now in heaven:

St. Abercius Marcellus of Hierapolis (Phrygian [from part of what is now Turkey], bishop, c. 167)
Sts. Alexander, Heraclius, and companions (early martyrs)
Sts. Alodia and Nunilo of Adahuesca (Spanish, virgins, martyred [beheaded by Moslems] in 851)
St. Benedict of Macerac (Greek, abbot in France, d. 845)
St. Bertharius of Monte Cassino (French, Benedictine abbot in Italy, martyred by invading Moslems c. 884)
St. Cordula (virgin, martyred c. 453)
St. Donatus of Fiesole (Irish, bishop in Italy for 47 years, 9th century)
St. Mallonius of Rouen (British? missionary in France, bishop, d. 314)
St. Mark of Jerusalem (Palestinian, bishop, martyred c. 156)
St. Maroveus of Precipiano (Italian, Benedictine abbot, c. 650)
St. (Mary) Salome of Galilee (Israelite, wife of Zebedee, mother of Sts. James the Greater and John, possibly related to the BVM, witness of the Crucifixion, 1st century)
St. Moderan of Berceto (French, bishop of Rennes, later Benedictine hermit in Italy, c. 730)
St. Nepotian of Clermont (French, bishop, c. 388)
St. Nunctus of Merida (Spanish, abbot, martyred in 668)
St. Paul Tong Viet Buong of Phu Cam (Vietnamese, captain of king's bodyguard, tortured and martyred [beheaded] in 1833 [beatified 1900, canonized 1988])
St. Philip of Fermo (Italian, bishop, martyred c. 270)
Sts. Philip, Severus, Eusebius, and Hermes, of Heraclea (from Asia Minor ... bishop, deacon, and two priests ... martyred by burning in 304)
St. Simplicius of Monte Cassino (Italian, Benedictine abbot, c. 570)
Bl. Timothy Giaccardo of Narzole [Timoteo] (Italian, priest of Society of St. Paul, died (leukemia) at age 51 in 1948 [beatified 1989])
St. Verecundus of Verona (Italian, bishop, d. 522)
