Unfair charges against use of car

I received an email stating that I would be charged because I had a pet in the vehicle during my use of it. I absolutely did not have a pet of any sort in that car while I used it. When I picked up the car it was in excellent condition & I returned it in that manner. I have used zipcars that have smelled of dog & covered in fur & I am aware of how unpleasant that is & would never return a car in that manner. How does Zipcar know that the person who lodged the complaint isn't the offender & placing blame as to to not have to deal with the situation themselves. I realize Zipcar is based on the honor system, but I'm very upset to be wrongly accused & charged for it.
