On October 18, we members of the Catholic Church family honor, in a special way, the following friends of God -- "saints" and "blesseds" whose souls are now in heaven:

St. Luke of Antioch (Syrian, physician, evangelist [gospel-writer], historian [writer of Acts], missionary, martyred in 1st century)

St. Asclepiades of Antioch (Syrian, bishop, d. 217)
St. Athenodorus of Neocaesarea (Cappadocian [from part of what is now Turkey], bishop in Pontus, martyred c. 269)
Sts. Brothen and Gwendolen (Welsh, 6th century)
Bl. Daudi Okelo of Ogom-Payira and Bl. Jildo Irwa of Bar-Kitoba (Ugandan, sons of pagans, catechists, martyred [speared when aged about 16 to 18 and 12 to 14] in 1918 [beatified 2002])
St. Gwen of Talgarth (Welsh, widow, martyred c. 492)
St. Justus of Beauvais (French, nine-year-old boy, martyred by beheading in 285)
St. Kevoca (Welsh, hermitess, 5th century)
St. Mono of Nassogne (Scottish or Irish, hermit in Luxembourg, martyred c. 645)
St. Tryphonia of Rome (Italian, widow, martyred in 3rd century)

If you have anything to share about these holy people, please reply now -- biographical episodes, prayers through their intercession, the fact that one is your patron -- whatever moves you. If you are interested in one of these saints or blesseds and want to find out more about him/her, please ask. Additional information is sometimes available on the Internet.

All you holy men and women, saints of God, pray for us.
God bless you.
John
