On October 11, we members of the Catholic Church family honor, in a special way, the following friends of God -- "saints" and "blesseds" whose souls are now in heaven:

St. Agilbert of Jouarre (French, Bendictine monk, bishop of Wessex in England and of Paris in France, c. 685)
St. Alexander Sauli of Milan [Alessandro] (Italian, Barnabite priest, teacher, Superior General, bishop of Aleria on Corsica, died at age 58 in 1592 [beatified 1741, canonized 1904])
St. Anastasius, Placid, Genesius, and companions (priest and others, early martyrs)
St. Andronicus of Ephesus (from Asia Minor [now called Turkey], soldier, martyred by stabbing after being mauled by arena animals at about age 65 c. 304)
St. Ansilio of Lagny (French, Benedictine monk, 7th century)
St. Bruno of Cologne (Dutch, imperial chancellor, duke, archbishop, died at about age 40 in 965 [canonized 1870])
St. Canice of Kilkenny [also known as Kenneth] (Irish, monk-priest in Wales, missionary in Scotland, abbot in Ireland, died at about age 74 c. 599)
St. Emilian of Rennes (French, hermit)
St. Eufridus of Alba (Italian, Benedictine monk, 7th century)
St. Firminus of Narbonne (French, bishop of Uzès, d. 553)
St. Germanus of Besançon (French, bishop, marytred by Arians c. 390)
St. Gratus of Oloron (French, bishop, c. 506)
St. Gummarus of Emblehem (Belgian, soldier, hermit, died at about age 57 in 774)
Bl. James Grissinger of Ulm [Jakob] (German, soldier, Dominican brother, painter of church windows for fifty years, died at about age 84 in 1491 [beatified 1825])
Bl. Pope John XXIII Roncalli of Sotto il Monte [baptized Angelo Giuseppe (Angel Joseph)] (Italian, bishop's secretary, medical corpsman in World War I, archbishop as diplomat in Bulgaria/Turkey/Greece/France, cardinal archbishop of Venice, elected to papacy in 1958, convened Second Vatican Council, reigned until death at age 81 in 1963 [beatified 2000])
St. Juliana of Pavilly (French, Benedictine abbess, c. 750)
St. Mary of the Desolation Torres Acosta of Madrid [Maria Soledad] [baptized Emanuela] (Spanish, superior of Handmaids of Mary, died at age 60 in 1887 [beatified 1950, canonized 1970])
St. Nectarius of Constantinople (from Asia Minor, patriarch (bishop), d. 397)
Sts. Nicasius, Quirinus, Scubiculus, and Pientia, of Rome (Italian ... missionary bishop, priest, deacon, and disciple in France ... martyred c. 285)
St. Peter Le Tuy of Bang Son (Vietnamese, priest, martyred at about age 70 by beheading in 1833 [beatified 1900, canonized 1988])
St. Placida of Verona (Italian, virgin, c. 460)
Sts. Probus of Side and Tarachus of Claudiopolis (Pamphylian [from part of what is now Turkey] and Roman, tortured and martyred by stabbing in 304)
St. Sarmata (Egyptian, desert hermit [disciple of St. Antony], d. 357)
St. Zenaida and Philonilla of Tarsus (from Asia Minor [now called Turkey], sisters related to St. Paul, martyred in 1st century)
