I'm BAACK...

Well, it HAS been an eventfull summer.... Sort of. It hasn't been a very HOMESTEADY summer, but that happens some years.

I DID manage to put in 25 test tomato plants at the new property. Cutworms got them all.

While that is a DISCOURAGING thing to happen to perfectly good tomato plants, it is good to know that I have a cutworm problem. Next time I will plant them with little sticks. That way the cutworms won't be able to eat them.

My MIL came to stay with us, and she has grown strong and healthy. For this I am gratefull.

My new bee hives are doing tolerably well, and I look forward to harvesting a honey crop next year. At least one of the hives will not be large enough to winter over safely, so I am going to put them on top of a strong hive. There will be an inner cover between them with a screen over the opening to keep the bees from fighting. Heat rises, and this should help the small hive be warm enough this winter. I also intend to put bags of leaves around them as a windbreak.

I found out what was making my legs wobbly. I have Multiple Sclerosis. The treatment seems to have helped a little, but it means a daily shot. Bleah. But, ya gotta do what ya gotta do. I have learned to give myself shots.

Garden and berries did fine.

So, did any of you folks start something new this summer? How did it turn out?
