Short answer: You can only move the return time to an earlier time 3 or more hours before the beginning of the reservation (or 24 or more hours in the case of 8-hour-plus reservations).

Long answer with rant: Read the fine print below--taken verbatim from Zipcar's site (>Help>Rules and >Help>Cancellations). If you found these forums, you could find this infor.

If you wish to cancel a reservation or shorten the period for which a vehicle has been reserved, you must do so at least three hours before the start of such period. Reservations of 8 hours or more must be cancelled 24 hours in advance of their start. Reservations cancelled or shortened less than three hours before the start of the reservation period within these periods may be subject to certain penalties, as further described in the Penalty Policy.

There is no charge for a reservation under 8 hours canceled or shortened up to 3 hours before it begins. Reservations over 8 hours can be cancelled 24 hours in advance with no charge.   For reservations under 8 hours canceled or shortened less than 3 hours before they begin, you will be charged for the reservation. For reservations over 8 hours canceled within 24 hours of their start, you will be charged for the reservation or any remaining portion of it up to a maximum charge of one daily rate for that usage

Christina, is it necessary for you to be so snotty when replying people in these forums? Have noticed it more than once...

Thanks, anonymous user--at least I (I snottily say) always follow the Zipcar guidelines and "don't use a fake email address" because "it creates a lot of technical problems for the community."

But you're right--lots of people post here asking questions that _are_ answered on the Zipcar website, and if I see that, I try to both 1) tell them the answer, and 2) tell them where they could have found the answer on their own. I do this more or less on the principle of teaching someone to fish as well as giving them the fish--this way, people can go about trying to answer other questions they might have.
