surpised Bush didn't try switching the debate to abortion or gay marriage last night. he took a real slamming.

is there a rule that means the subject had to be Iraq and participants could not switch over to another topic?

Yes rod--

each of the three debates is structured around the topic. Last night it was Iraq. Next week it will be the economy.

I disagree that Bush was slammed.

Kerry acuses Bush of not being truthful about the reason we went to war--yet he agreed with the same exact evidence and supported to move agains Iraq. Now., when it isn't popular--he's a shrinking violate.

I want a real strong man in the White House. Not someone like Kerry who would seek a global permission slip to protect this country.

President Bush was clearly tired of the same old lies that come from Kerry. You could see him rolling his eyes as Kerry misrepresented the facts.

I think President Bush was advised to stick to the few key issues and not let Kerry take him all over the place with wordy nonsense! Kerry is all talk, talk, talk.

President Bush has already shown who he is and how he'll resond. He didn't need to prove as much as Kerry had to. I think Kerry failed miserably. I see his lies.

heheh..I meant violet!

I agreew withhte origional ordewr. A shinkign violate.

-- ZAROVE (ZAOFF3@JUNO.COM), October 01, 2004.

aha!

i see, said the blind man.

still think Bush got whacked - but also appreciate that "the Jimmy Stewart thing" is a peculiarity of American Culture.

that's made Tom Hanks millions, hasn't it?

crazy.

the country that puts men on the moon, stuffs the Communists, wins all the Golds worth having at the Olympics, and the country that will surely be the first to cure cancer,..., well, it just loves having "the boy next door" as its leader.

"make me President - I'm just a simple guy....".

that is mind-boggling.

Arnie Sch.... the Austrian Guy.....with the long name

only in the US of A.

its a crazy country. just ask anyone that wasn't born there. not a bad country. just a crazy country.

i often wonder why religions still flourishes in the US whereas it seems to be dying in all but the undeveloped world.

did America get all the best Europeans and Asian - and does it now get the best Hispanics. are they just cleverer and so on......

if i ever write a book, this might be my subject.

-- Ian (ib@vertifgo.com), October 01, 2004.

Bush definitely won the debate last night.

Who would vote for someone who needs to have a "global litmus test" before taking a pre-emptive strike??? Who is John Kerry kidding here...

-- Kevin Walker (kevinlwalker572@cs.com), October 01, 2004.

you are a partisan man! over your eyes are your hands!

not a perfect rhyme, but my best effort.

-- Ian (ib@vertifgo.com), October 01, 2004.

Seemed to me that Kerry came off much better. Its so interesting how each of us saw the same thing in an entirely different way. Reminds me of some of the biblical discussions we find ourselves in.

-- Jim (furst@flash.net), October 01, 2004.

I find it so surprising that most Catholics support the Democratic candidate.

Kerry supports some very anti-God things like abortion and gay marriage. He also doesn't seem to support protecting freedom.

I guess we all have our more important issues or something?*%$#??

-- ("faith01@myway.com"), October 01, 2004.

Actually Faith,

If you check out the Catholic board it is almost entirely anti-Kerry. There have even been serious issues discussed which involved whether its a mortal sin to vote for him. Some Bishops would withold Communion from him and view him as a heretic.

-- Jim (furst@flash.net), October 01, 2004.

Well good...

Kerry is definately a hypocrite., and does not deserve the vote of Christians.

How could you say you are a Christian out of one side of your face, while supporting abortion and such things out of the other?

This is a no brainer, folks! Kerry is not a believer, no matter what he says.

Actions speak louder than words. I wanted to puke last night when he closed by using the line God Bless America--or something to that effect.

-- ("faith01@myway.com"), October 01, 2004.

Faith

If you read my post you will see that I simply opined that Kerry came off much better than Bush. I never stated that you or anyone should vote for him. I stand behind my perception that he "came off" well. You don't have to like or dislike someone to decide who wins a debate. Sometimes the one you disagree with most wins in a debate. The opposite also holds true. We can only watch and tell each other what we think happened.

-- Jim (furst@flash.net), October 01, 2004.

I'm not sure how relevant who "won" the debate really is. Someone could be the best debater but a lousy president. The opposite is also true. Someone could also have great charisma, but be a lousy president. It's rare, I think, to find the perfect leader who has it all. I personally didn't see anything much different than what I've been seeing as far as hard information and details of any plans the candidates have to solve the US' problems. I can't in good conscience vote for Kerry simply because he supports abortion. I'll decide on Bush based on the other issues. Who are the other choices for president?

-- Andy S ("ask3332004@yahoo.com"), October 01, 2004.

How could Kerry come off better--with his confused facts.,and the biggest blunder of all in that he insinuated that President Bush lied about his reasons for going to war--even when Kerry himself supported and believed those same *reasons*???

How could Kerry have come off better when he admitted that he would need a global permission slip to protect this country?---blagh....

-- ('faith01@myway.com"), October 01, 2004.

Andy, check out this guy... www.voteforjoe.com. I wish he had a chance at President because I agree with most of his stances on issues. I love his idea to create a US Dept of Peace, since we have a Dept of Defense and all.

I didn't get to catch the debate because I had a paper due today. But I'm going to try to read a transcript on the internet. Interesting how different people thought it went one way or another. When are the other two segments and what's the third issue besides the economy?

-- Emily ("jesusfollower7@yahoo.com), October 01, 2004.

Faith

See what others think.

I understand Your position. My point involved the massive number of ways one could have read what happened here.

We all look at the same words differently. Depends on who and how they are said.

-- Jim (furst@flash.net), October 02, 2004.

Thanks Emily! I'll have to see if Joe's on the ballot in my home state and finish reading all his position papers.

-- Andy S ("ask3332004@yahoo.com"), October 02, 2004.

In the age of television, the split screen showed a different side of the coin.

That side lost its cool.

Iraq has become from an asset into an embarrasment for the President. He should had tried to locate Osama after getting rid of Saddam and installing someone from Iraq to run his own country.

It's a shame he listens to someone kike Vice-Presiden Cheney whose company Halliburton is profiteering from Iraq.

Who won-Kerry Who lost? a timetable to get out of Iraq with dignity.

The Christian Yahwist

-- Elpidio Gonzalez (egonval@yahoo.com), October 02, 2004.

We can not get out of Iraq Elpidio., and leave those poor citizens who are trying to believe us whan we say we will never abandon them. It has taken great courage for those people to begin to try and cooperate in their own liberation. It is what they want. But they., as caged animals under that evil regime--don't know how to speak up and think for themselves. They have lived in fear for far too long.

We can't abandon them now. We need to win their freedom for them. And history will remember this with great favor when all is said and done.

So many of our men have lost their lives and to pull out before we accomplish our goal--will mean they died for nothing!!

Let us honor those who have lost their lives to further freedom, ultimately protecting us here at home., by re-electing President Bush, the man who is capable of seeing this through. Otherwise they all died for a mistake.., for no reason at all. And we walk backwards....

-- ("faith01@myway.com"), October 02, 2004.

i happen to consider Bush a lousy president and Kerry a lousy candidate. my opinion - that Bush got slammed - is, therefore, pretty impartial.

i also agree with Elpidio. the US could be over there still, 20 years from now. just look at the trouble the English had in getting out of Ireland. they're still there 35 years later; and it's only in the last 5 years or so that the murder and mayhem has come to some sort of end.

look before you leap.

-- Ian (ib@vertifgo.com), October 02, 2004.

How ever long it takes--our security is worth it. I have five children to think about!

We can't let those nut cases go unchecked--no matter what it takes. Many more lives are saved in the long run.

It was a great strategic move on the part of the President.

-- ("faith01@myway.com"), October 02, 2004.

What if you lose one son to war, will that change your mind, faith?

Like Ian mentioned, it wasn't until the English in Northern Ireland stopped shooting at the Catholics from Northern Ireland and decided to talk to the "terrorists" that the fighting subsided.

When Itzhak Rabin talked to Arafat, the fighting subsided. Then extremists said let's kill the prime Minister for talking to them. They did. So it has been a carnage since then between Palestinians and Israeli Jews.

From what I know from insiders there. Many Iraqis have been killed by the USA. Iraq still is tribal. So when you kill one from a tribe, the tribe gets together to fight back.

In the USA you become "nationalistic" that is "patriotic". You killed us in 9/11, then we kill you too. So some USA people are still "tribal".

The Christian Yahwist

-- Elpidio Gonzalez (egonval@yahoo.com), October 02, 2004.

No Elpidio,

I wouldn't change my mind.

-- ("faith01@myway.com"), October 02, 2004.

you're right Elpidio.

there are the Shias, the Sunnis, the Kurds (who initially supported the US), and of course the Baathists. each hates the others. all are tribal. all have it in for the US.

its much worse than Ireland. and in Ireland you did not get suicide bombers. goodness knows how you defend against that.

-- Ian (ib@vertifgo.com), October 04, 2004.

Thr reason I use that analogy, faith, is because the Bushes have not lost a son to war.

President Bush sent 50 people to death row in Texas.

Many more people have died because , as I warned him before in February 2003, that after 2 months he should someone from Iraq to run the country. He didn't. It wasn't until April this year that the carnage was so severe that he complied to have elections and have someone from that country to run the affairs if his people. Unfortunately he doesn't have 100% control since the USA still holds the money.

The Christian Yahwist

-- Elpidio Gonzalez (egonval@yahoo.com), October 04, 2004.

Elpidio--President Bush didn't listen to you? Well I can't imagine why?????

Anyway--seriously., we lost more innocent civilians in the 911 attack on this country than we have in this war.

Who knows how many lives have been saved because President Bush did what he did. Do we want to wait for the terrorists to start blowing up our buses?

President Bush knows what he is doing.

Kerry doesn't.

-- ("faith01@myway.com"), October 04, 2004.

I found a way to get messages to President Bush other than e-mailing the White House.

That person knows the President.

He doesn't believe in dreams. But that's OK. Lincoln's wife didn't when he told her the dream he had in 1865. He saw himself inside a coffin. The wife took him to the theater to make him forget about it. Booth, the actor there killed him from behind.

Since then we have lincoln to adorn our pennies, our fives,...

He became an immortal. That will happen to President Bush too. But the Pope must leave this world before him.

The Christian Yahwist

-- Elpidio Gonzalez (egonval@yahoo.com), October 05, 2004.

My dream showed Bush surviving an assassination attempt on him. We could not determine who the assassins were: inside or outside people. There were plain clothes agents and police in uniform doing all the shooting.

Hey, but it was just a little nightmare.

...........

-- rod (elreyrod@yahoo.com), October 05, 2004.

Elpidio--if even one of your prophetic dreams has not come true--you are a false prophet.

Can you honestly say that every dream you have had has come true?

Anyone can guess that the pope will leave this world before President Bush--the odds are just there.

And anyone can guess that President Bush will be assasinated....even if it came true--that doesn't mean anything but a lucky guess.

On the other-hand, when it doesn't come to pass--you will know that you are a false prophet.

God's prophecies are 100 percent accurate--and so would his prophets predictions be....

I don't see how your prophecies or predictions would have anything to do with God's work since His revelation was completed in Christ.

-- ("faith01@myway.com"), October 05, 2004.

Ten people make prophecies. Who is correct? The one who gets it right. All of the others are then called "false prophets". It still looks like a gamble from a distant view. Anyone of the prophecy tellers could have been correct, but only those whose prophecies come true earn the title of being a "Prophet".
