Which Gospel: faith,righteousness, or love?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Ask Jesus : One Thread

Kevin asked me where one finds in scripture where one finds that righteousness saves a person. Elpidio, You wrote, "As long as we follow a righteous path, Luke, we all be saved."

Please show where this is written in Scripture???

If the gospel is God's power to salvation (Romans 1:16) and it is, then how will someone be saved without obedience to the gospel???

Since this is a general topic abpout salvation, then I decided to discuss the 3 main topics discussed about salvation in the New testament.

I believe we have conflicting views also on salvation is because different writers in the New testament focus on different aspects.

Matthew, letters of James, Jude,... focus on righteousness. The Catholic Churches :Roman, Orthodox, traditional, Anglican,...tend to focus on this one. So do Messianic, Ebionites,....

Luke, Paul and his letters: Romans,Corinthians, Galatians,...focus on faith. Evangelicals (Protestants), baptists,...tend to support this view.

John, I,2, 3 John, Hebrews, ... focus on love. Pentecostals, Charismatics,...tend to support this view.

Mark is kind of neutral. So is 1 and 2 Peter. Kind of righteousness , grace, love ...mixed together.

Are the Churches of Christ also kind of in between?

I am kind of in between: I support Paul's concept of grace since God Yahweh is merciful enought to forgive sometimes our trespasses.

I also follow a righteous path.

Since I blieve the clue to being with God Yahweh is love, then love is part of my belief system as a means for being saved.

Elpidio

does not Our Lord answer this one.

He says to us in St John 15.10 (and elsewhere words to same effect):

"If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love"

Therefore, we see that the Commandments provide the key.

in St Matthew 22, we see:

[36] "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?"

[37] And he said to him, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.

[38] This is the great and first commandment.

[39] And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.

isn't that code for "righteousness".

we see this here in St Luke C.1:

[5] In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zechari'ah, of the division of Abi'jah; and he had a wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.

[6] And they were both ***righteous*** before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

We're saved by an ACTIVE FAITH, not just an ACT OF FAITH.

"faith working through love"

Faith and Works.....

So, yes, "Active Faith" would mean Faith and Works.

Elpidio,

You wrote, "I also follow a righteous path."

You may "think" you follow a "righteous path" but you are deceived.

How can you follow a "righteous path" when you don't even believe that Jesus is God???

If Jesus is "not" God, then I suppose that Thomas lied about Jesus when he said in John 20:28, "My Lord and my God!"

You claim that you "follow a righteous path" but you have "not" obeyed the gospel of Christ.
