Two young pilots, 11 and 14, flew from California to Canada and back! The Associated Press in Los Angeles reports that Kenny Roy 14 and Jimmy Heywood 11 completed the international flight on Saturday September 24 landing at the Compton-Woodley Airport where they were met by Lt. Col. Lee Archer, one of the famed Tuskegee Airman. In Canada Roy completed his requirements and received his license to flu solo. A filght instructor acted as chaperone but the young men did all of the flying including navigation. The filght from Southern California to Vancouver British Columbia took 10 hours each way. Kudos to these two youg men, both of whom are Black.

I applaud the achievements of these two future leaders! With all of the negative print in the news, it is refreshing to read about two positive young men. Unfortunately, this story was buried on page 11 of our newspaper.

page 11 is OK for me. This was not front page news in a major newspaper. Where did the black newspapers put it? So far they did not print it at all.

Pastor Al, thanks for sharing this. I saw the item in my local paper but I don't recall that it mentioned their being black and there was no photo.

I have not seen it in the local black press, but that's not to say it wasn't there.

“But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house”.

Too often this is what happens when we believe, are confused by and follow the cunnings and deceptions of the “Egyptian Pharaohs” and “Babylonian kings", who set themselves up as messengers who speak for God. But Thanks be to God there is always a Moses and a Daniel to live among them, who sees their deception and speaks the truth.

As African Americans and members of the predominately black, African Methodist Episcopal Church we would do well to stop seizing upon every opportunity to put blacks down. Before we decide what it is that African Americans have or have not done. It behooves us to thoroughly check it out.

Below is a link to the front-page center coverage of the New Pittsburgh Courier of this event—one of the oldest black newspapers in the land and one which I have read since I was a child.

Although this is only one example of how the Black Press covered this story. It is certain that others, which are published weekly, will also cover it. The story might have also been covered by several others, which I did not research.
